Pub Guide - William Morris

For those looking for a place a little more out of the way try the William Morris, right outside Hammersmith tube station which is just two stops from Shepherds Bush. Ideal for those arriving from the east or west by Picadilly or District Line tubes.

Reviewer - DagenhamSteve
Name of pub - William Morris
Location - Hammersmith
Size - L-shaped pub (or perhaps sort of bashed Z-shaped) which is big enough.
Selection of beers - Good. Guest ales almost always available, and Wetherspoons prices (it's a Lloyds Bar).
Price of drinks - Wethespoons, so good for London.
How full does it get on a matchday? Busy, depending on opposition. Cos it's not close to the ground it doesn't get absolutely rammed often.
Fitness of bar staff - Never noticed, so can't be great.
How long does it take to walk to the ground from there? Rear entrance right opposite Hammersmith Station Hammersmith & City line. Then 5 minutes to Shepherd's Bush. Then 10 minutes to ground. Best allow yourself 20-25 minutes to wait for trains.
Sky Sports? - Think they've recently introduced this, but not seen it myself yet so can't comment.
Suitable for away fans? Well the police barricaded the place when Plymouth were last in town because of intelligence that the masses of Green people hadn't all met there by chance. Bit of a problem for Marky67 and Harrowhoop, who similarly got barricaded in with them. Never really seen a problem in there but I only go there with my friends, not with my kids as there is a slightly rough edge to the atmosphere.
Suitable for families and kids? See above. I sometimes go there with my Dad. Does that count?
What's the smoking situation? Average.
Beer garden - No.
As far as pub toilets go, just how bad are these? Big, clean as pub toilets ever get. Lose a point or two for being down stairs but they do have those frames above the urinals with that day's papers in them to keep your mind occupied while you have to hold all that weight.
Does it serve food? Yes, usual pub grub. Not bad if you like that sort of thing.
Trendy modern bar, traditional pub or somewhere in between? As traditionally pubby as a Lloyds bar can be. The area round the bar is pubby, the front more modern bar.
In one sentence why should people visit/steer clear of this pub? Good beer, handy for tube, not next to ground so less of the problems you get in closer places but easy to get there from, bit rough, you'll be lucky to get a seat but there are standing areas. Like most football pubs, I wouldn't want this as my local but for a pre/post-match beer it does a job.
Anything else to add? Don't go there if you're a fan of pre-Raphaelite-inspired mid-to-late Victorian interior design. The pub name appears to be chosen at random.
