Austin flowers — podcast

QPR's leading scorer and popular centre forward Charlie Austin is the guest on this week's Open All R's Podcast.

On Saturday's win at Ipswich Austin said: "What has gone under the radar is Ipswich were unbeaten in nine or ten games, we've gone there and put in a performance like we did to win 3-1 has gone under the radar. That shows the quality we have got in the squad to turn it on and hopefully we can push on.

"The atmosphere is great, the performances help. We got the win against Doncaster , putting the Everton game aside we put in a really good performance in the second half on Saturday. We can kick on and score more goals, winning 1-0 home and away may not be the most entertaining, we'd all like to score more goals, but as long as we get the points that's the main thing."

On his background in the semi-professional game he said: "All my friends still work on the building sites, it's my dad's company so I know what's going on there. When I have an off day I think it could be worse I could still be working on a building site but I'm doing the best job in the world and what I always wanted to do as a kid."

And on being used as the lone striker in QPR's 4-2-3-1 he said: "Yeh as long as I'm selected and I'm in the starting 11 I don't care where I play. I can play up front on my own, or as one of two, it doesn't really matter as long as I help the team. Obviously it's nice to get supported, if you've got a second striker, but the way we're playing at the moment when you have Niko Kranjcar in behind that's like having a second striker because the performance he put in on Saturday was second to none."

Host David Fraser and regular panellists Paul Finney and Chris Charles are joined by actor and QPR fan Henry Lloyd-Hughes.
