Blues still can't afford any slip-ups

Pompey's devastating home defeat to Crewe seems an age ago - in fact it occurred just five weeks ago.

Since then the Blues have won five games out of six - the loss at Stevenage being their only setback since - to move six points clear of fourth-placed Stevenage in the battle to claim an automatic promotion spot.

Some would call it the race to finish third, but Plymouth, in second, aren't out of sight yet.

But for all the confidence Pompey have shown in recent outings, they are still in the position where another defeat would throw things wide open again - and this weekend they will be out to make sure such an outcome does not happen at home to Yeovil.

The men from Somerset have already held Paul Cook's team once this season - at fog-bound Huish Park at the very end of 2016 - and Cook sees them as a threat.

He told the Pompey club website: 'There are six games to go and I know very well that football can kick you in the teeth if you’re not careful. Our record will be gauged after 46 games and hopefully it will be good enough to get us where we want to be.

'It’s a boring message, but it’s all about repetition. We’re in a strong position and a win would get us nearer to where we want to be, but it’s no foregone conclusion. We had the draw at their place in the fog and I remember drawing both games against them last season.

'Darren Way has done really well and I presume they’ll be looking to finish the season as high as they can. They’ve got a lot of dangerous players in their squad and it will certainly be a difficult game, that’s for sure.'

Pompey are without Noel Hunt and Eoin Doyle, which means Kal Naismith and Conor Chaplin are vying the striker's role. Carl Baker is also an injury doubt.

One little stat Pompey will want to put right ... they have not beaten Yeovil at Fratton in a league game. That said, they have only played them twice.
