Southampton Fans Once Again Sell Out Season Tickets

Saints have announced that despite the worst season ever in the club's history and relegation, they have sold out all of the season tickets for the coming season back in the Championship.

Our friends down the other end of the M27 spend a lot of time telling whoever will listen that they are the bestest fans in the World, but in Southampton we are not boastful and we just get on with the job of supporting our team without feeling the need to tell everyone how great we are.

Proof of that is the support shown for the team during last season, despite the fact that it was clear well before Xmas that we would struggle to stay up, St Mary's was packed for every game and on the road the support was phenomenal, with sell outs at every game, whether it was a midweek trip to Manchester United or the 750 mile round trip to Newcastle.

A month ago the club announced that more season tickets had been sold than at the same period last year and now they are pleased to say that it is once again a complete sell out.

Given the traumas of the past 3 years or so this is a superb effort.

The Daily Echo have quoted the club as saying.

"We thank all of our fans for their continued support this summer as optimism grows ahead of Will Still's first matches in charge at St Mary's."

This is a massive understatement and the club should be a little more appreciative of the level of support they have received when you take into account not only the performance of the team on the pitch, but the performance of Sport Republic and those they appoint to run the club off it, who quite bluntly have made some horrendous mistakes .

At most clubs there would have been a massive decrease in season ticket sales after a performance like last season and the failure to reign in Russell Martin on his ego trip and then let him stay in place when it was quite clear to all that he was running his own agenda was as bad as the two men appointed to replace him, although in fairness to Simon Rusk he was only holding a sinking ship at that point.

As I said at the start of this article, we Sotonians are very self deprecating, we don't boast, we just get on and do things, we turn up in large numbers and support our team, ok we don't ring bells and dress up in garish costumes, we just support our team through thick and thin.

So perhaps it's time to give ourselves a round of applause, I have been critical of our supporters at times, so it's only fair that our loyal support is recognised and credit where credit is due.

The club doesn't say how many season ticket holders it has capped, I would think around 23-24,000 and there is now a waiting list if the club decide to issue a limited number of Half Season tickets in December and they will be first in the queue for next season's tickets.

So supporters of Southampton Football Club, stand up and take a bow, you deserve it.
