Pure cinema, or poor am-dram? Preview

I don’t think this is the game for Ronnie. In his only full game for Southampton, Kieffer Moore gave him a roasting in the air. Will need Dunne and Cook to try and curb that threat today.

Kolli comes on as sub, gets a couple of goals and one would think, a half decent run in the side.

One game later, and through no fault of his own, is back on the bench. How can you possibly expect him to develop any sort of form or rhythm without playing a decent number of games?

He has the tools, others simply don’t. It will come. With the right support.

Not going anywhere giving it back to the opposition either. Madsen seems the only one capable of passing it to his own teammates.

He’s not that kind of player and never will be. You can dominate a game with the ball. He needs a destroyer beside him.

Don’t recall DeBruyne charging around the pitch tackling box to box. He destroyed teams by moving the ball around in a way that no one could get near him. Admittedly, the players around him knew how to take care of the ball when they received it.

The perfect conditions for absolutely anyone having a shot from 30 yards.

Agree to a large extent. Has a great touch, scans well and his passing is excellent. Pretty composed too. The apparent lack of creativity is definitely more about the mediocrity around him. With better players in and around him we would as a team be creating far more. The front line has been awful. Poor control, poor positional sense and lack of awareness of where to be and when to make the runs into space or channels. If they did, Madsen is more than capable of providing the service.

My favourite ever player is DeBruyne. His passing is exceptional. Perfectly weighted and perfectly timed. Haaland has suffered badly since he left City.

Madsen has similar tools but no one on his level to take advantage of them. Feel frustrated for him.

The team we are currently fielding is close to league one standard, with only a few exceptions.

Don’t expect much better on Saturday.

Ostensibly, most of our best players are crocked. With Chair, Poku, JCS (as if) Burrell, Edwards and perhaps the new striker (one that has pace and can hopefully control a ball) back in the team, we will be a different proposition. I don’t count Varane in that, because I personally don’t rate him either. The two in midfield have a thankless task at the moment because none of those in front can hold the ball and retain possession, so they spend most of the game in ball recovery mode.

We have no other choice than to blag our way through the next few weeks with what is available. It hasn’t been pretty and it won’t be pretty on Saturday.

Our problem is not a lack of progress despite having spent significant money, it’s the continued disappearance of players through injury. Until we solve that, we are making zero progress.

Impressed by Kone’s cracking performance at Oxford?

Would be delighted. As for Kolli, how many touches did he actually have against Stoke?

Barely any by my recollection. Perhaps another reflection of our general inability to hang on to the ball or pass it to one another.

It was tosh, we all know it. We move on. Let’s hope tonight is significantly better…

Trying to think of another striker with an almost absolute inability to control a ball, in conjunction with constantly giving away fouls in the process of trying to do so.

Look, the reason Dunne and Cook played so well, and had to, against Stoke was that the ball came straight back the moment it was cleared or played forward. Our inability to get the ball under control and manage a few passes between us was embarrassing.

I get we are tired, have players missing etc, but surely as professional footballers, we should have the capacity to carry out the basics of the game. The stats were damning.

I hope Kone comes good, I really do, Rangers have been in my blood for most of my life and I believe we are moving in the right direction.

Time will tell, fingers crossed, let’s hope for better tonight.

Clutching at straws barely covers your attempts to justify his performances.

I find his ball control laughable. I coach 10-12 year olds and they have better technique than Kone.

His record now stands at 2 in 20 is it? Very much on a par with our other distinguished strikers named in your list.

However, I look forward to the ongoing development of this top talent and genuinely hope he scores against Oxford and I will gladly eat humble pie. Will be watching his performance with interest.

If he could learn how to trap a ball at the first attempt, even that would be a massive improvement
To not even have the basics of the game in your locker, as a professional footballer, is frankly unforgivable.

I agree to some extent that playing the ball in front of him might give him the opportunity to run onto it and shoot, which is his strength, but in a foot race over more than 5 yards, he is more often than not second best. Running the channels is not his game.

Unless we play to what strengths he does possess, he is essentially a passenger.

Shooting aside, I haven’t seen anything that indicates he is a championship striker.

Cannot control a ball to save his life, lost possession time after time yesterday. Rarely wins a header, gives free kicks away for fun and his passing accuracy must be awful.

May improve, but at 22, he is not a kid. The technical aspects of your game should be well established by now. I can see why he has done well in the lower leagues, but he has some way to go to become a decent championship striker. Hope he does, but I find him a painfully frustrating watch.

And yes, I have seen plenty of shite strikers, been supporting this lot since the 70’s. Chap.

Kind of ironic that Dunne and Cook have been our standout performers recently and yet we have just spent 4.5million on a centre half. At the moment they are both undroppable, although a 3 game week should provide Ronnie with some minutes.

Surely the distinct and obvious lack of quality is a cause for concern?

Gritty performance indeed, but we will get absolutely nowhere unless we have some quality about us. Technically we were woeful today. Those possession stats tell the tale of our almost complete inability to retain possession through poor control, passing and decision making.

Accept that we are a work in progress, players missing etc etc, but that was a dire performance with a point achieved through the heroics of Dunne, Cook and Davies who looked the only professional footballers we had out on the pitch.

It’s not just his lack of goals that’s the problem, to see a professional footballer that cannot control a ball or barely run is mind boggling. You can almost guarantee that if you play the ball into him, we will immediately lose possession. Technically, he is one of the worst strikers I have ever seen at this level.

He does
