Tonda is doing a great job
at 16:04 20 Jan 2026

I was A Tonda happy clapper. Winning 4 out of 5 and then 6 out of 7 was absolute dreamland in terms of recent Saints managers.

On that basis I was very happy to see him appointed, and how things have gone in the last 7 games has been disappointing and surprising.

However, I'm happy to stick with him for a bit longer now. Give him a chance to re-find his magic touch, because magic it certainly was. People were talking about automatic promotion ffs!

Tonda says he's NOT worried about being sacked.

I meant it more generally.

We've got to to hope that he is a positive, unifying influence behind the scenes and that he's getting the prima donnas in line.

if he's doing else, you would hope that Romeu is sorting out the dressing room.

Interesting background story. He's a good lad.

Becoming independent from parents (emotionally and financially) is a major life step. Some people never achieve it their whole lives. Others can only achieve it by severing all ties.

I wonder what stories people on here have?

Make it make sense?

I have to say I have some sympathy with Solak in relation to Tonda. I thought his record in those first games was so good that it would have been mad not to appoint him.

Just as a reminder, he was appointed after 5 games having won 4 and lost 1, but he then went to on to win the next 2 as well making it 6 wins from 7. Moreover, in those seven games we scored 21 goals and conceded 9.

In the following 7 games, we've won none and lost 4. We've conceded 12 and scored only 5.

Can someone please explain to me how this is possible?? Fair enough, it was perhaps unrealistic to expect the winning streak to continue indefinitely but to collapse so spectacularly makes no sense to me at all.

Was someone giving the players magic beans during that first set of 7 games?

Or is it just that other teams simply worked out what we were doing to succeed, stopped us doing it and Tonda is too inexperienced to have a plan B?

Who Is The Worst Signing Saints Have Ever Made
at 15:55 16 Jan 2026

This has got to be clickbait, but I am biting!...

Including Sofiane Boufal in that list is an absolutely disgrace.

He is the best player to sign for Saints in the last ten years.

Who Should Play In Goal On Saturday
at 14:58 15 Jan 2026

Dismay about Solak's recruitment strategy is hardly news.

The club has brought in another inexperienced player who might turn out to be useless. Let's see.

You'd think that Solak would learn his lessons at some point - how long did D Downes last (£7 million !!) - but they don't seem to.

But there have been a few hits, so let's hope this keeper is one of them.

Certainly, getting shot of Bazunu was the right thing to do. He made one or two spectacular saves but he let him far too many that looked very very soft.

We have to play the new guy. There's nothing to think about.

We have to hope that he's good, and there's only one way to find that out.

What a daft poll.

Replace Bazunu and then ask whether we should play his replacement. Err, Idk, tough decision.

Surely there's better clickbait than this.

I think that's right. Over the last 18 months we've not exactly been solid when trying to defend.

I think all those defeats will have left some scars. So used to conceding goals that some kind of panic will set in when under sustained attack.

5 Things About West Brom Game
at 11:59 10 Dec 2025

I think some people want jam on it.

Rarely does any team plays brilliantly for 90 mins. Energy has to be managed and when you get a 3 goal lead, it's natural and probably sensible to reserve resources a little.

And there's always another team on the pitch. WBA upped their game and then their energy and confidence increased further as they started scoring.

I'm pretty confident about the Norwich game. They've improved a bit but they're sill not great.

Old habits die hard?

It's not a bad skill to be able to play the ball out of defence and the joy with Tonda is that we can then also link that into quick aggressive attacks with many players involved.

It not surprising that we sometimes default to old ways ways of playing.

It's still all good. To be honest the transformation is unbelievable.

Tonda needs to do whatever he wants to do.

6 wins in your first seven is pretty special at any level and this is not an easy league.

How Tonda Eckert Has Changed Saints Fans Opinion On Recruitment Policy
at 21:25 8 Dec 2025

I'm loving the fact that people are talking about us as having the bones of good PL team.

Let's not get carried away. And let's get promoted before we start worrying about next year.

Keep going as we are and we should definitely make the play offs again. That would be a massive result after the damage Will Still inflicted.

I guess I get the concerns about his age and relative inexperience, but you can't argue with 5 wins out of 6 and having turned us from basket cases to winners.

I'm delighted he's been given the job permanently.

This is a sensible appointment.

He's won four and he's halfway to five. He's been great.

60s and 70s were a golden age - Hill, Stewart,Clark, Lauda, Hunt.

I had a friend who was a mad Ferrari fan and the first Championship I can really remember was probably Piquet in 1981.

I went to a few UK Grands Prix in the mid-80s, watching Prost, Senna and later Mansell, but then it dropped off a bit for me. Especially during those periods of domination by e.g. Schumacher, Hamilton etc.

I still enjoy watching on the TV but it's so polished now (and this year's tight finished feels very dodgy!)
