I would think we’ll ask Vipotnik to push through the next two games, unless either Idah returns to fitness, or we’re a couple of goals up and can bring Wales on.

The cup game, I’m sure he’ll be on the bench or rested completely.

We can’t judge Bobby Wales, but Matos sees him every day. So far, neither him nor Sheehan has felt he’s ready.

I do feel a bit sorry for Bobby Wales. He should really be out on loan playing football somewhere.

But with two centre forwards and classing Cullen as an attacking midfielder, we’re too short on cover, so he’s stuck in no mans land not playing for us and not playing for anyone else.

This is what Vipotnik has got a lot better at IMO. Movement and anticipation in general, including but not limited to attacking crosses.

He gets much more shots away and gets played through more for the same reason.

Tymon had the third highest chance creation in the league last season, though crosses from the position he was in last night, which are probably fairly typical for him, can’t really be considered as clear cut as through balls or crosses whipped in ahead of the striker for him to attack.

Preston have been linked with him. Not sure how realistic that is, but if there’s anything in it, we should be able to compete with them.

If he was available on loan though, I’d imagine a bigger hitter in the Championship would blow us both out the water

That goal in particular was partly because they gave Tymon about 20 minutes to get his cross in and he placed it perfectly. Still a quality finish.

Vipotniks heading ability was never the actual issue, it was his ability to read where the cross was going and find space away from markers. He’s certainly worked on that. Two headed goals before January versus none last season, plus the one against Forest which wasn’t a header, but was from getting to the near post before his man and turning the cross in.

Yes, we were in control of that match more or less from start to finish. Just a few poor decisions in promising positions stopped us creating as many clear chances as the performance deserved. You’re right, we were solid further back and didn’t let them get a grip on the game. Apart from the late free kick I can’t remember them seriously threatening us

Yes, that’s a concern. I thought he had one of his best games last night but noticeably tailed off towards the end. Not a criticism, he ran himself into the ground.

If Idah isn’t fit, it’s a big ask to play that role for 90 minutes three times in six days.

I agree, Wales would probably have come on if we’d scored again

Yes, Sheehan was the wrong appointment, but you can’t blame the club for making it. He deserved it based on what he did last season. It certainly looked a good choice at the time.

Possibly some of the comments on here a bit negative?

We’re going to have scrappy games against scrappy teams. We’ll see more like that, especially at home. Matos has already got us to the stage where we’re winning them. Next step is to get the second and third goals our dominance deserves, but he’s already moved us a long way forward.

Aside from that, I said crosses weren’t Vipotniks strength a few days ago, then he absolutely buried that header. Even if you take the goal out of it, I thought he had one of his best games. He did what he usually does, but he just did more of it if that makes sense.

Ronald and Franco should have made it safe, but I don’t tend to criticise players for missing chances, I criticise them for not getting in positions to have chances. Still need to work on turning possession in the final third into clear chances, but overall I saw that much more positively than the general vibe on here.

Work in progress, but we are progressing

It’s an appetite suppressant. It makes people eat less, but not healthier.

If someone is overweight due to lifestyle, the temptation is going to be to keep eating the foods they like (in smaller quantities) and cut out the healthy stuff.

When they come off it, they have lost muscle as well as fat, which puts more strain on their bodies when the weight goes back on.

I think it’s probably quite good for people who use it sensibly, but the majority use it as a quick fix and are not doing themselves any long term favours.

Swansea City : Matos at a crossroads with his team still searching
at 10:42 28 Dec 2025

I’d be very surprised if Widdell and Eom don’t both start tomorrow. Yes, we are rotating, but they are both in prime position to get the lions share of starts.

He may throw a curveball by starting Yalcouye instead of Franco, but then players around him have to be mindful he’s unpredictable which has its good and its bad points. May even go for Fulton if he wants to give Franco a rest and go with a similar style player.

Another big game Thursday. Thank god we’ve got a bit of depth this season.

From my point of view

Would this squad be challenging the top six with Klopp managing them?
Would they be challenging the top six with Bradley managing them?

Extreme examples, but I’d say Sheehan is more at the Bradley end of the scale.

Of course, we’re nowhere near where we want to be, but I’d blame the football management more than the recruitment team. Fair enough if you disagree, but we wouldn’t have seen an upturn in results and performances if that wasn’t the case.

Unfortunately, that’s a series of managers who haven’t fancied Parker now. I agree, he impressed me in the limited chances he’s had.

We’ve got to bring someone in at RB now. I’m sure Matos would prefer Galbraith in the middle. If we’re not trusting Parker, a loan makes sense to me, as Key isn’t a bad fullback, he’s just been some way short of his usual standards this season.

Taking the individual out of the equation is exactly what I don’t think has been happening. I didn’t mean from you specifically.

As far as I’m concerned Sheehan wasn’t getting the best out of his players and the recruitment team are taking a bit of undeserved flak for that. I think we’ll see a lot more from Matos.

By my reckoning, we signed eleven players including Widdell who was technically signed earlier but joined in the summer.

Of those, Galbraith is our best player, Burgess and Stamenic start every game. Widdell is now at the point where he starts most games and comes on when he doesn’t. Inoussa and Idah get the occasional start but come on every game.

Then you’ve got the four loans, three of whom I’d have no problem starting if we had injuries, Santos who is cover and Wales who is one for the future.

If I were to criticise, we spent all summer chasing that elusive striker and potentially let better options than Idah slip through our fingers. Benson hasn’t impressed me.

Other than that, when did we last have a window that good? We were never going to sign eleven players and have seven or eight of them starting every game.

Edit - I’m not happy, I just think blame is going in the wrong direction. If Bob Bradley or Michael Duff had this squad and got the results and performances Sheehan did, they’d get 100% of it

Well he (along with Galbraith who played the main part) made the early chance for Vipotnik. We only had two clear chances all game. People don’t see the skill involved in getting the chance he missed, it’s not a coincidence they seem to drop to him.

But yes, it was an absolute sitter. Routledge was very similar, albeit at the top level, so good at getting into positions but couldn’t finish.

Wouldn’t get in any other championship team? He frequently gets in the Wales team.

Vipotnik just came off with the heavy fixture load in mind I would think. Particularly with Idah being potentially unavailable.

Nor am I really an in fact there are some similarities in playing style.

But Cullen is routinely involved in either creating decent chances or getting on the end of them. Where he evidently needs to improve, is being clinical when he gets those chances.

He isn’t a natural finisher - agreed.

Similar to Oli Cooper - no chance. Cooper doesn’t get that chance yesterday because he doesn’t make the run to get a practically open goal between two bigger, stronger centre backs. Obviously I can’t defend the attempt from there, it was woeful.

We had two big chances yesterday…

Galbraith-Cullen-Vipotnik
Galbraith-Cullen

Stick Oli Cooper in there and neither chance happens.

Strikers missing chances is frustrating, but I’m more critical of strikers not putting themselves in positions to get chances.

Three started, but four came off the bench. Seven players out of sixteen.

Not suggesting it’s coming from anyone in particular, but there seems to be a kind of undercurrent of wanting to discredit Adam Worth because he aggravated people on here in the past. I hope I’m seeing something that’s not there, but I do get that feeling.

Sheehan couldn’t get a tune out of them because he overachieved last season and got the job off the back of it. It’s not just an improvement in results under Matos, you can see ideas he’s trying to implement, we’re more decisive transitioning from back to front and aren’t devoid of ideas as soon as we reach the final third

In fairness, I think the previous management team are the biggest reason we’re so low in the table.

Challenge for Matos is to get more out of this group of players and I think he’ll do it with ease.

Cullen scores that open goal yesterday and we’ve got half a chance of a result at the prospective champions

His one trick does actually work fairly often. What gets me with him, is his lack of effort.

Happy to run at players, but loses the ball and just shrugs his shoulders and jogs back to his position. Doesn’t protect his fullback or get involved physically, just waits to be given the ball again.

Just stinks of a loan player who doesn’t want to be here.
