Bee's 0 - 0 Swans
We missed the 1st 5 minutes of the games as Brentford seems to lack the ambition of having cashpoints near the ground! Apparently by popular belief Brentford started strongly, it was a bit strange that Brentford who usually have such a good following, but could only half fill their ground on the opening home game of the season. 1,500 of the Jack Army travelled upto the game, with plenty of the exiled London Jack's visible.
After the initial pressure from the home team the Swans settled into a neat passing game. The Swans should have taken the lead when Boyd had worked his way through the Bee's defence and was trying to round the keeper, but pulled back and laid on to Price, who with an open goal blazed wide.
The game then continued with both teams playing a fairly tight midfield, then the Brentford players started dropping like flies, the game was not very physical but the amount of attention forced 5 mins of injury time in the 1st half.
Swansea then stepped up a gear and had excessive amounts of possession but no real idea on how to play the quick ball, relying more on a steady build up against a Brentford side who liked most players behind the ball.
However it was Brentford who nearly scored at the end of the 1st half, a free-kick conceded by Bound on the edge of the area was nearly converted when the ball whistled past Roger's post. Then just before the break, Price stumbled when put under pressure, giving the ball away just outside the area and the Brentford players shot just sailed wide, the look of on Roger's face was a picture of relief.
Half-Time
The second half played pretty much in the vain of the first, Early pressure from both teams was cancelled and nullified the game somewhat. However Boyd's running off ball was a sight for sore eyes. This brought the Swans their best chance, Boyd's brilliant running won the Swans a corner, which was sweetly knocked across the box by Boyd, Cusack jumped to meet and headed the ball against the post.
Jon Coates suffered a knock shortly after that with what looked like a pulled ligament so believe will be doubtful to play the WBA game on Tuesday.
Brentford then started to come back as the Swans had obviously had settled for the draw, and were happy to play on the break, but they caused few problems and the game finished 0-0.
Compared to the Wigan game last weekend it shows more promise for the season ahead, chances were created, the defence looked tight, but the obvious lack of the goal scorer in the squad is daunnting and benefits from this season will be small if any if this isn't sorted soon.
