The Scousejack Guide To Tranmere Rovers

ScouseJack's Guide To......Tranmere Rovers

CLUB

Tranmere is actually a suburb of Birkenhead and has a great tradition. The club is VERY family oriented and has a huge school programme and a brilliant youth policy. It has ALDO s bar within the club which is for HOME supporters and has a nice restaurant. It has seen terrible times, as bad as us, but thanks to the local Wirral Council- yep that right -they're resurrected and are ok with a good female chair in Lorraine Rogers.
Location

2 miles from Birkenhead Town centre which is not pretty but busy. You cannot get a direct train. You have to go to Liverpool Lime Street and get an underground train connection which are ok. Ferries are romantic but don't run that often -but if tie is on Saturday would be ok as they have weekend cruises.
Route.

DO NOT TAKE MOTORWAY. I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE MOTORWAY.
TAKE a 483 all the way to Chester then M53 and follow signs to Birkenhead. Come off at Junction 4 and take first exit. B 5151.Its 5 miles from Junction 4.

Parking

A problem. Side streets have local residents schemes which are policed mercilessly. Park well away from ground and walk.
Pubs

All are away friendly but show respect as there are some who will glass you first. Do not under any circumstances call them scousers unless you want to start trouble. The police up here are fine but don't mess about.
Prenton Park Hotel is outside the Away end (Prenton park road west)
also Mersey Clipper is outside. There is a good craic here on matchdays but be careful all the same.

Hotels

Wirral is crap for hotels. Liverpool has loads of cheapies which are fine right on the Waterfront eg Formule 1 £20 pernight, Campanile, Dolby and loads of others. Ill give numbers if anyone wants.

WHAT TO DO.

Everything really. Walker Art gallery is brilliant, Museums are good on Albert Dock too. As Beatles fan myself, Beatles experience is disappointing. I can do a better job myself. If anyone wanted to see where they were brought up I'll show em myself.
The ferries are a fun way of getting about. You could park for the day in the Albert Dock and catch a ferry to Birkenhead. Bring the wife up and let her loose in Liverpool.

WHAT NOT TO DO

Go for night out in Birkenhead. Not safe at all I'm afraid. My own son got a bad bricking last year. Liverpool is fine. All on CCTV.
If you're a golfer bring your clubs and make a weekend of it. There are loads of clubs on the Wirral.

Think thats it.
Can anyone get me a ticket for our end. I can only get one for the home end
So come up and make a weekend of it.
Disneyland it ain't-but its been good to me
