Jenkins Waits For Calls

Jenkins Sits By The Phone As Jackett Suns It Up

Jenkins Holds Jackett's List

Kenny Jackett has headed off on his summer vacation with just Darren Pratley added to the squad ahead of pre season training on Monday. It has been a frustrating time for the Swansea manager who has seen his attempts to bring in new players thwarted by holidays, the World Cup (?) and Blackburn Rovers.

But Chairman Huw Jenkins is not downbeat as he explained to the Evening Post tonight "Kenny has gone away, but my job is to stay here and try to get somewhere with all our approaches for players," Jenkins said."We're still working on the same set of targets we had from day one and I'm doing all I can to pursue them. Generally that's the way it works. "Kenny indicates the players he wants and I spend a lot of time trying to get them."

"I'll go on holiday when I feel my job is done," he added. "I'm making calls every day but, unfortunately, the close season is not proving to be easy as far as transfer activity goes. The window in January was much easier compared to this. It's almost as if most football clubs have gone to sleep for the summer."

"I'm sitting here keeping my fingers crossed that I'm going to get a call," Jenkins went on. "In some cases we are waiting for clubs to get new managers, in others we need them to make signings so they will release players to us. "Hopefully, with pre-season getting under way around now at a lot of clubs, there could be some movement. "It's now that players see where they are in the pecking order at their club so we've just got to be patient." He added: "There's no panic on our part. In fact it may be a good thing because you can rush in to making signings. "Also, when you leave spaces in your squad, things can come your way in July or August. We can afford to do that because we know we have a good set of players already."
