Martinez Happy At Swans Win

Martinez A Happy Man

Roberto Martinez was understandably happy after seeing his side notch their first league win of the season with a 3-1 triumph at Walsall.

Two goals from Andy Robinson and one from Jason Scotland gave the Swans their first league maximum this term - propelling them up to 10th place in the table. The win was doubly pleasing after the Swans fell behind early on to a Martin Butler goal at the Banks Stadium.

After the game, Martinez said " With the make-up of the team and the way we approached the game we want to win, and that sometimes means leaving spaces, but we need to play to our strengths.

" I think we have achieved that and the overall level of performance was what we wanted.

" We know that Walsall can hurt you and create chances but we have defended well and been strong when we had to.

" I believe we were more dominant in our matches against Nottingham Forest and Oldham yet only managed one point.

" I think Walsall have a fantastic mix of experience and youth and will do well."

His opposite number, Richard Money was full of praise for the Swans and believes that they are destined for promotion, he said " I am not worried at all. We have played against a team that for sure will be in the top two spots; there is absolutely no doubt in my mind about that.

" Our defending was like the film Calamity Jane - there's no way you can defend like that at any level and expect to get anything out of the game.

" Words defy me. But we have hit the bar twice and the post and had two or three really good opportunities to score.

" And even when down to 10 men we have created a number of chances so I am not worried at all."
