Another Monk Fan Emerges

You would think that Everton manager Roberto Martinez would certainly know a thing or two about Swansea boss Garry Monk for he was the captain of the Swans when Martinez was leading the Swans out of League One.

It is a strange relationship when you think about it for they have gone from being team mates with Roberto as captain to Monk being Roberto's captain when he was manager and now they are two highly thought of managers in the Premier League.

They will come face to face again tomorrow at the Liberty when the Swans take on Everton with the two sides separated by just goal difference highlighting two impressive starts to the season.

For Monk that is a continuation of the excellent form that his side showed last season which ended with an eight placed finish and fifty six points, both of them best performances in the Premier League.

Monk has only been a manager for 18 months but already there are plenty to are tipping him to be a future England manager including his friend Martinez who has added himself to that camp of people.

He said: "It wouldn’t surprise me if he was linked with England.

"I don’t see another manager who has had as big an influence over the last three seasons in terms of taking different roles.

"What he has done with Swansea has been very impressive from every angle you look at it.

"He was thrown into it when the club needed to avoid relegation and gave them direction, stabilised the team and found the way to win important games.

"The next step was to have a clear idea of how to carry on with the philosophy of the football club, to be flexible, and Swansea finished in their highest ever position in the Premier League.

"That is down to work done over 10 months, it doesn’t happen over a short period, and it shows that he gets his ideas across and he is innovative.

"Then this season is the most impressive one for me because he lost two or three important players, brought younger legs into the squad and the results on the pitch have been exactly the same.

"Garry deserves incredible credit for dealing with different situations while having incredible continuity on the pitch.”
