Steven Davis Nets Northern Ireland Player Of The Year Award

Saints midfielder Steven Davis has won the inaugural Northern Ireland player of the year award as voted for by the fans.

Steven Davis has been a stalwart of the Saints squad since joining from Glasgow Rangers in the summer of 2012 as Saints returned to the Premier League.

Not always appreciated by some in his early days he won the Saints supporters over with a series of displays that have led to him being the Mr Consistency of the Saints squad and a vital member of the team who can perform well in several different roles.

Now his hard work, not to mention a good footballing brain have won him accolades in his home country where he has Captained his national team to its first tournament in three decades after qualifying for the European Championships this summer.

Davis led by example for his country and scored several vital goals along the way and his form for Northern Ireland certainly seemed to spur him on when he returned to Premier League action with Saints.

That has seen the Northern Irish fans vote him their player of the year for 2015 and there can be no greater accolade as it is the fans themselves who have appreciated his contribution.

Quoted on the official Saints club website Davis said:

"It’s an honour to be crowned the Vauxhall Northern Ireland Player of the Year.

"We had an unbelievable 2015 and to be able to lead this team was just incredible, the spirit of the players and the fans combined helped us get to France.

"The fans were with us every step of the way and the aim now is to do them proud over in France, I’m sure we’ll have the same support we always do. It’s going to be a proud time for everyone associated with the team.”

Saints fans will certainly be looking out for Northern Ireland's results and will want to see Davis do well
