Refwatch: Dale v MK Dons

Hull referee Carl Boyeson will be the man in the middle for Dale’s second home league game of the season against MK Dons on Saturday.

Having joined the league list in 2002, Saturday will be Carl’s 21st game involving Dale, with the most incident-packed coming at Notts County in January 2005.

The match finished 0-0 and was a fairly timid affair, but Mr Boyeson sent off Dale’s Gareth Griffiths and Ernie Cooksey as we finished the afternoon with only nine men.

Cooksey’s red card was later rescinded, meaning he was free to take part in the FA Cup tie at Charlton five days later.

We last saw Carl for the first home game of 2016 against Chesterfield.

A thrilling encounter ended in a 3-2 victory for the visitors, but the main talking point was the sending-off of Spireites’ forward Gboly Aryibi, who was twice booked for diviing.

Mr Boyeson was also in charge against Chesterfield when we visited the Proact Stadium two years ago.

That was another eventful afternoon, as Josh Lillis had to leave the field on a stretcher, Johny Diba took over in goal and was lucky not to receive a red card and both teams scored penalties in Chesterfield’s 2-1 win!

Back in our 2013/14 promotion season, Carl refereed two Dale games and proved a lucky charm as they produced six points.

Early in the campaign he was in charge of the 1-0 home defeat of bury and in late-March he was the man in the middle as we won 2-0 at Wycombe.

Carl’s full record at Dale matches is:
Aug 02 Southend (h), L 1-2
Jan 03 Lincoln (h), L 0-1
Jan 05 Notts Co (a), D 0-0
Apr 05 Leyton Orient (h), W 2-0

So far this season Carl has refereed two games, showing seven yellow cards and no red. His most recent appointment was Chesterfield v Swindon last Saturday.
