Liverpool Chasing Yet Another Saints Star

Liverpool are seemingly continuing in their quest to be able to put out a complete team of ex Saints players, but you will be surprised at who their latest target is.

Liverpool are being reported as being interested in signing Sam McQueen to solve their long term problems in the left back position with Leicester City also being touted as possible suitors for the Saints man who only made his Premier debut two weeks ago today.

McQueen has featured in all the games since with both first choice Ryan Bertrand and Matt Targett Injured, but either this story is an agent making mischief or Liverpool have been at our last four games.

McQueen has made an impression in the last fortnight after coming on against Burnley, but the fact remains he has only started one Premier League game with 65 minutes in that Burnley game.

Given that McQueen has so little game time with this season's emergence in a new position of left back being his only first team action bar a 10 minute sub appearance under Mauricio Pochetino almost 3 years ago in an FA Cup game at Sunderland.

It cannot be denied that McQueen has taken chance with both hands and although I am a fan of Matt Targett, McQueen is better suited to the style that Claude Puel likes to play than Targett is, meaning that he is now probably the new deputy to Ryan Bertrand.

So how much actual truth is in this latest rumour and if so what sort of price would McQueen fetch, probably the first thing Saints need to be doing is signing him up to a new deal, at the moment he has only 18 months left on his contract and this deal would not be very highly paid given that it is based on his progress a couple of years ago when he was a teenager and trying to break into the fringes of the squad let alone the team itself.

That might suggest that this is his agent at work, giving Saints a little nudge that his client has made an impact in this last fortnight, before that Burnley game McQueen's career at St Mary's looked to be going nowhere and more money would have gone on the player going to a Championship club in January either on loan or permanently.

Now that situation has changed drastically and Saints need to move fast.
