Matt Le Tissier Big On Irony With Coutinho Comment

This summer has seen an array of ex Liverpool players comment in the media about Virgil Van Dijk, Saints fans have been pleased to see Le God return the favour with spades of irony.

A plethora of ex Liverpool players have had their say on the Virgil Van Dijk situation with a variety of comments that at the bottom end have merely suggested that he should join the Anfield club, through to a deal is near and now taking a more sinister note with it being alleged that he should ask for a transfer or even strike to force Saints into selling the Dutch defender.

Indeed one big irony is that one of the latest to give his views on the subject is former Liverpool player an manager Graeme Souness who also spent a year at the Dell as manager of Saints in 96/97.

Souness is probably the last man who should comment on any situation that concerns loyalty given that he sold the story of his heart bypass operation to the Sun newspaper, a publication that is rightly villified on Merseyside for it's reporting on the Hillsborough tragedy of 1989.

So having seen so many ex Liverpool stars ramp up the PR campaign for their ex club it has been nice to see Matt Le Tissier fire back and he has been doing so with a big dollop of irony, something that has gone over the heads of some.

On his twitter account Le Tiss commented.

"Hope Liverpool do the right thing and let Coutinho join Barca so he doesn't have to go on strike, he deserves a move to a club like that 😉"

This is referring to the fact that Barcelona are rumoured to be about to launch a bid for Philippe Coutinho and have been linked with him all summer.

Le Tissier is having a bit of fun but it has gone over the heads of some Liverpool fans especially those who took Van Dijk smiling at an Albanian Liverpool fan in Austria as a sign that he was desperate to go to Anfield.

A Liverpool supporter thought he was being cleaver when he replied.

"But Sir, Liverpool are not a feeder club like Soton. 😂😂😂😂"

But back came Le Tiss to end the verbal jousting.

"Fed them Suarez and mascherano didn't they".

Although there is no suggestion that Barcelona are going to employ underhand tactices to land Couthino, the media are suggesting that Luis Suarez could play a big part in bringing his former team mate to the Neu Camp as they are close friends from their playing days together on Merseyside.

Suarez left Anfield under a cloud in the summer of 2014, but he had spent the previous 12 months wanting to get away from the club claiming they had broken promises and was described by then manager Brendan Rodgers in the summer of 2013 as showing "total disrespect" for the club." He was ordered to train alone and then Liverpool put their foot down and told him firmly that he would stay another season.

In fairness to Suarez he knucked down and even signed a new contract in December 2013, but this counted for nothing six months later when he left Anfield for Barcelona and how ironic if he lures Coutinho to Barcelona, at least Saints fans will find it so.

But fair play to Matt Le Tissier in poking a little fun into the mix.
