In a new site feature, we'll be interviewing an oppostion fan before matches to gain an insight into their season so far and their thoughts on us. Tommo kicks it off with an interview with a Wycombe supporter.
Who are you, and how long you been watching WWFC for?
Preston Exile, a Wycombe fan since 1992 but now sadly exiled up north so don’t get to see them as much as I would have liked. Going this Saturday though!
How's the season progressed for your lot so far and what would you say was the highest and the lowest point of your season?
That’s easy. Our season has picked up since we lost 6-0 at Stockport last month. Since then we have won five and drawn one, a tremendous response. I think the Play Offs are the minimum we should expect now, if we can keep the run going automatic promotion should be within our grasp. The high point was Tuesday’s 4-0 win at Mansfield.
Wycombe are always picked to be big promotion favourites in pre-season but regularly fall short. Why do you think that is?
The last two season’s there have been excuses. In 2005-06 we were going well until Mark Philo died followed by John Gorman’s wife which sent the club into turmoil. Last season, the Carling Cup run undoubtedly got in the way. This season there are no excuses.
You've recently signed Leon Knight, who once showed that he had all the talent in the world, but has under achieved for the past few years. Do you think that his fortunes will change at Wycombe?
I hope so. He’s similar to Jermaine Easter in terms of pace, goal scoring and quite possibly attitude. Let’s hope he is more committed to the club than Jermaine was.
How have your team adapted and reacted to Paul Lambert’s reign so far and which players should Dale be looking out for on Saturday?
It still seems to be adapting every week but at last Lambert seems to have a settled side. McGleish (now up to 15 for the season) and John Sutton have at last started to fire, while the rest of the side have clicked recently. Look out for Argentine Sergio Torres for a bit of flair.
Are there any memories that stick out for you from Dale v Wycombe games in the past?
From two visits to Spotland, particularly hitching a lift all the way back two seasons ago.
What are you expecting from Rochdale this weekend?
A very tough game against another team on a relatively good run of form. We will have to be at our best defensively, although (tempting fate) I think we can score goals past the Rochdale defence.
Who, if any of the opposition players Wycombe have come up against so far, has stood out in League Two this season?
I’ve always been a fan of Jim Bentley of Morecambe while Brentford defender Matt Heywood is another I admire.
And who has been the worst player you've seen in League Two this season?
No-one stands out.
Are you expecting any snow or tornados this weekend?
No but even if we did, Wycombe have undersoil heating so I’d expect the game to be on. As for tornados, meet the Wycombe attack…
And what’s your prediction for Saturday’s game?
An exciting game. 3-2 Wycombe.
