Bury preview

The road to Wembley continues as Leeds entertain Bury in the Northern Quarter Final of the Johnstones Paint Trophy.

Having complained that his troops are "tired and weary", it would not come as any surprise if Dennis Wise made wholesale changes to his line-up tonight.

Leeds have not met Bury in a competitive fixture since October 1974 when goals from Trevor Cherry and Peter Lorimer decided a League Cup 3rd round tie in Leeds favour at Gigg Lane. The last time Bury came to Elland Road was also in the League Cup 3rd round - just over FORTY years ago - Leeds also triumphed 3-0 on that evening; Charlton, Greenhoff, Johanneson the scorers.

But going back to the future and Dennis Wise has admitted the game could be an opportunity for fringe players to show him what they are made of. It is expected that the likes of David Lucas, Leon Constantine, Fillip De Costa, Johnny Howson, Ben Parker and Curtis Weston will step up at some point tonight.

Wise can also call-up Dutch striker Mark De Vries who has returned to the club from Leicester for a second loan spell.

Wise has ruled out veteran Alan Thompson making a surprise come-back. Once again, Dave Bassett will be Dennis's eyes and ears on the touchline as the Leeds manager will be confined to the John Charles Stand as he serves the second match of a three match touchline ban.

Bury meanwhile are buoyant at the opportunity to come to Elland Road, with a trip to Wembley just two games away. They have sold out their allocation of 1300 tickets and Leeds have provided their supporters with an extra 400 seats on a pay-on-the-night basis.

They currently lie in 11th place in League Two and booked their place in R2 of the FA Cup on Saturday with a 4-1 win over Workington.

Manager, Chris Casper, a former Manchester United player has just one absentee in Lee Bullock. The player is presently on loan from Hartlepool, who don't want him cup-tied.

The game kicks-off at 7.45pm and tickets are still available, see www.leedsunited.com for full details.
