Dale interest in Halifax striker

It has been revealed by the NON-LEAGUE PAPER that Rochdale AFC are one of five Football League clubs who are chasing the signature of Halifax Town's transfer listed striker, Jon Shaw.

England C International Jon Shaw is being chased by a number of Football League and Blue Square Premier clubs having been made available for transfer by Halifax Town.

The 24 year old former Sheffield Wednesday striker is being chased by the likes of Rochdale and Stockport County after hitting an impressive 20 goals in what has been a disastrous season for Halifax Town.

Shaw is one of the few remaining contracted players at the Shay, but like the rest, he has been made available for transfer as his club prepare for life in the Unibond League.

As well as Rochdale and Stockport, it has also been reported that Bradford City, Bury and Rotherham United are all in for the transfer listed striker. With Rushden & Diamonds, Stevenage Borough and former club Burton Albion also chasing him.

The striker told the NLP “I had a phone call from the club while I’ve been out here saying they wanted to let me know before anyone else that they were putting everybody up for transfer and they’ll require a fee for me.”

“I didn’t think to as how much, seeing as I’m on the other side of the world. Whether it’s fair that they are asking clubs to pay when they are just trying to get people away from the club is another matter.”

“Goals-wise I’ve just had the season I’ve been waiting for since I dropped into the Conference and on the back of that, to then be asked to play three leagues below obviously wouldn’t be ideal”. “Halifax did a lot for me in moving me from Burton and giving me a chance. And I’ve done well, but, to have to drop three divisions is not a great situation for us players to be in.”

“At the moment it’s all up in the air and I wish I did know more. Since they put us all up for transfer, I have known that a couple of League clubs have come in, but while I’m out here I’m just trying to let the phone calls go and sending messages back saying I’ll ring when I return to England on Monday (today)”.

However, despite Halifax wanting a fee for the striker right now, the NLP has also revealed that there is ‘some doubt’ as to whether Shaw’s contract with the Yorkshire club will still stand if the club is wound up.

With the interested clubs currently biding their time as Shaw, like the rest of the contracted Halifax players, could walk away for nothing in a ‘matter of days’.
