The Very British Kinks 03:25 - Mar 29 with 1700 viewsTummer_from_Texas

Nice analysis of a band I always liked, and one that was criminally underrated and underappreciated on this side of the pond, at least until bands like Van Halen got big covering all their stuff.

Not really underrated
Anyone with any musical nous places Ray Davies right at the top of song writers.
Nobody forgets Dave Davies sound

Great band up there with the best. Rays lyrics better than any of his contemporaries. Write Lola when such subjects were taboo

What with all this other detritus,it’s good to have a musical dialogue.

I think all of their song painted a picture in my young impressionable eyes. Waterloo Sunset was my favourite followed by dedicated follower of fashion which was right for the time. I enjoyed the musical immensely and it filled in the gaps in history that went over my young head.

Was going to mention both Apeman and Come Dancing.
Many think that they also invented heavy rock with Dave Davies's guitar riffs. I've got a mono version of 'Victoria'.
Great song.

100% agree. Although I think the Jam's version of David Watts was better. His songs just brought visions into your head of everyday people.

Never made it big in the States and Ray and Dave were fighting siblings wars well before a less talented Noel and Liam.
