Copy the Luton way? 11:50 - Sep 27 with 1449 viewsAnotherJohn

Nobody can deny that Luton's rise from the Conference to the EPL is a remarkable achievement, but one has to ask if it provides a sustainable way forward for an ambitious Championship club. Looking at the BBC comments thread appended to its report on the Hatters' 1- 0 loss to Exeter City last night, I was struck by how many Luton fans are resigned to just a single season in the top flight. A common sentiment was that one season would at least finance a new ground. Is the Luton way really a better model for us than the Swansea way?

No.

Imagine having to watch Luton style football every week.

It seems that’s the route we are taking. Sign journeyman players, percentage football on the field all with a manager unable to implement a philosophy or style & hope for the best. What we achieved was remarkable.

The achievement of one season in the EPL will stay with them forever but it won’t match the feeling that we had going to much bigger clubs and holding our own on the field, winning a cup and playing in Europe over a sustained period. Good luck to them but heaven help us on the road that we are taking

At this level the alternative is signing the likes of joel piroe having them for one/two seasons.
Getting them developed to where they are ready to tear the league apartm
Then lose them to a club with parachute payments.

The squad needs older heads for the other lads to look up to, also to be mentored by.

Our football will be more Newcastle than Luton.
Luton have signed some good players that I suspect other than Ross Barkley will stay with them if they come back down.
So they will have the likes of ogbene playing for them next year.
Might yo yo for a few seasons.
Anyone remember that team West Ham United?

Plus the money gained from promotion/relegation gives clubs potentially the chance to build a stronger club.
Rather be a Brentford, but a Luton ( in structure not football style ) would do

We may not like the football, but the vast majority of us would take going up playing like Luton.

It’s not sustainable. Playing bog standard football with inferior players is going to you ripped apart in the premier league. Getting there at all is the success.

It always amuses me when posters use phrases like "most of us" or "the vast majority of us". You can only know that by conducting a statistically significant poll of the fans. I presume you didn't do that.

Personally, I don't want to get promoted playing turgid football.
