| southampton... on 13:51 - Nov 2 by francisbowles | I'm not abusing him but is he really a premier league quality left back? He made 27 appearance last season and Southampton were rubbish. He has always had a great left foot and may possibly have improved his attitude, in order to get in their side, but he has been a lazy player when it comes to tracking back and defending. I do agree that they are the best side in the Championship this year. |
Yep he is.....hence the 27 matches he played for the Saints last season in the top league in the world. He was one of the best players on the park on Saturday and when I have seen him play he mostly looks a most decent player. Big asset for the Team the way he get forward much of the time and delivers the ball excellently, 'top dollar' left foot too. Not sure how you know what his attitude was like and it has now improved, etc, etc. What has Saints were rubbish last season got to do with it?? As I said elsewhere, he is a very decent left back and arguably one of the best in the Championship, but hey, if you want to 'knock him', its up to you but you are well wrong!!!

Gazza, I know what his attitude was like from when he played for us. He was often seen casually jogging back after our attacks broke down and he had left a great gap on the left side of our defense. He often turned inside and passed backwards when found on the half way line. I always thought he was better as a midfielder. He was really impressive there on his debut in a win at Wolves. Yep, always good going forward, when he is found in space. Quality crosses and dead balls. However, I'm not too sure about his pace, his ability to beat a man or his defensive ability. 27 appearances in a side that finished rock bottom and shipped goals doesn't strike me as premier league quality defender.

If Ryan Manning's attitude was a bad as you are saying then he would not have been selected, at the young age of 20/21, to play 30 odd Championship games nor would he have been selected to play 41 Championship times when he was 23.....he would not have been selected if he was not working hard - simple as that. Likewise, if his positioning was not good he would not have been selected. FYI, if he is attacking forward on the left it is for the other defenders to come across to the left to fill the hole. As for Manning being a midfielder - I do not concur, I would suggest 5 or 6 Manager's who select his position as LB knows his favoured position & that is not midfield despite impressing you once at Wolves. Moving on, at the age of 30ish he has played approaching 400 games professionally, only 27 in the Premier league with Saints and to comment on Saints 'shipped goals' basically not knowing very little how & why they did but suggesting it was his fault is wrong. Don't forget the plus 20 odd games for his national side. I have seen him many play times, because of my interest in ex QPR players, and he certainly looks a pretty decent LB with many Premiership qualities, hence why I believe he is good enough for the PL. We will see if Southampton get promoted this season when he will get another chance to prove himself.
