Poor Lisa Stansfield doesn't even get a nod.

AFC Rochdale?

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

Or the Co-op. At least the article concentrates on some of the positives of the town.

Oi is that a dig at the rain falling hard on a humdrum town? 😂

To be fair, Our Leese was born in Manchester, so that might have ruled her out.

It could have mentioned no MaccyD'z in the town centre.

He's right about Anna Freil.

Lisa's family were living in Heywood when she was born , and lived there until she was about ten. They then lived in Rochdale. She regards herself as Rochdale.

Of course in my view Rochdale's greatest thing of note is Toad Lane Co-op, and the formation of the modern Co-operative movement.

I was born in Manchester but brought up in Rochdale.

I consider myself to be from Rochdale. Always have, always will.

Bloody semantics will always dictate that I'm not, though.

Anna Freil's dad was my French teacher at Howarth Cross. Cracking bloke and teacher.

That's the problem with these literary types - they focus too much on the safe and the known.

Rochdale has so much hidden history and character that deserves a much wider audience such as Mundane Frannies Chippy on Well i'th Lane, the Turf Hill Terrors' philanthropic approach to a guaranteed bang for even the most desperate in Nell Rackers, even AFC Rochdale turning out in a new away kit at bury and getting booed onto the pitch by their own fans.

We may not have a PC World or even a friggin' McDonald's in our newly refurbished town centre, but who else can lay claim to the televising of a singing Mayor hosting a civic event for a beaten team, or for partly destroying the ozone layer when attempting to thaw the pitch out when burning out oil drums?

If John Lennon were still alive he'd have a strawberry field day.

Poll: What is it to be then?

Doesn't Rochdale have a PC World now? Just missing a Nandos I think.

Perhaps we do, that's explained the prolonged absence of mattress shagger robshaker.

As for Nando's, I think we have Cockle Doodle Moo, although the Turf Hill Terror would have preferred any cock'll do.
