The culture he may be referring to might be the losing culture and ability to play a different style, it may not allude to a split in the camp, so I would be careful with how his comments are interpreted because as someone who is not in the know, I pretty much share his opinion about his post in the way I interpret it. I’m not sure I would keep Armstrong out of his list but would keep Welington as we’ve never seen him have a proper run in the team and be able to settle but I’m not hopeful where he’s concerned either. I would also let Wood go.

Well I threw my ticket in the bin after the Millwall game so didnt go to Boro.. To be quite honest, I did this because I am sick of 3 centre backs, this is the third manager to try a system which does not work for our club or players. Tonda clearly has no real clue of what he is doing but then again neither does Spors. When is this jerk going to sod off elsewhere?
I agree with the post above, SR have no ambition and no idea. They don’t care about the fans or the league, we are second place to Goztepe in their pecking order. This started with the Brentford Moneyball idiot and now we are stuck with a squad of lightweight players devoid of passion and thus no hope of anything better than finishing just above the relegation places.
I’m absolutely livid and it’s about time the former players called out the owners for what they are..

I am still furious at Manning for the Millwall game where he bottled jumping for 4 headers and instead tried to injure the opponent. He does this every time!! Always plays the man, never the ball, same with the clumsy idiot at the back, Wood. They both need to be removed from the pitch and sold. These muppets at the back never communicate with each other so they get in each others way all the time and don’t pick up their markers. It’s a total f joke!!
Sick of it all, Soorts Republic and Dragan, once again, get the f out of our club.

Patterson or Trafford would be ideal, not another leftfield gamble. Bazunu may be one of the reasons our defence has poor shape and organisation, this is one of the pitfalls of having inexperience or youth between the sticks. This is for me the main reason young keepers struggle - because they just don’t know how to organise those in front of them. We need a keeper who can do this! |

We are so poor defensively, changes must be made there. A proper goalie commands his box and organises the men in front of him. Neither Bazunu or McCarthy are good enough so we simply have to get in a new keeper on loan in January. Fraser is now a league 1 player, he’s just lost the real pace he had and like Manning, doesn’t understand what it takes to stop crosses from coming in. I agree with those above, this should have been ironed out by now and is well drilled in defence. Wood will unfortunately never be good enough for the top flight, he’s not a bad guy to bring in in certain scenarios but he’s too all over the place and clumsy, even centre backs need to be agile and fleet of foot these days. Romeu looks past it tbh but he may improve over time. Jander has been quieter the last couple of games, looks a bit tired, that has also had an impact on the last two away results.
Overall were a goalie short and a CB too, if we can bring in a defensive coach then I still see us making the play offs. |

Another win but we got lucky, we couldn’t have complained if it had ended 3-3. The reasons for this are obvious to me.
1- we stopped playing to score goals and hurt the opposition in the second half. We have seem this so many times before so why do we do it. I remember us being top of the Prem and two up at half time at home to United. Second half we tried to outpass Utd in our own half for 45 mins and lost 3-2. This is the basics of football, you dont stop trying to hurt the oppp and invite them on, its stupid.
2- The substitutions made us weaker, I have no idea why Aribo is allowed on the pitch in a Saints shirt, just a pretender whos picked up a huge wage for being lazy for 3 years.
3- Our wing backs cant defend so, yet again, we failed to stop the crosses from coming in. More basics of how to defend. If we dont solve this problem we will ship too many goals, it seems to be irrelevant how many big men we have in the middle, we still concede.
4- Bazunu MUST be stronger, he was pathetic for their second goal and given his weakness, why is he left to battle with an oppo player on his own, the defence are supposed to protect him.
Eckert has bern great but he is not learning about the fact you need to play for 90 mins and not 45.. we have seen this in too many games, ok against ten men but last night we nearly chucked a 3 goal lead at home to a struggling team because we stopped playing at half time, this mentality has to change.

There’s something about Downs that I like, if he is given more time and plays at times when we are actually attacking or trying to score then we will see his potential come out. I know some might slate me for this opinion but I think he has some quality. With Quarshie it seems like he needs to develop as he is young, his first touch and passing will improve. It’s been tough to step in to a team which was like a rudderless ship and depressed too. Under Eckert he will improve and learn in the way he should have since August, again, I can see a player there. The issue is we have needed them to be ready to hit the ground running rather than work in progress but I still feel they will be seen as good signings in time. I am not convinced by Roerslev or Jelert but both have shown some good signs.
In January we need a proper striker to replace Stewart as he won’t last. Aside from that maybe a new keeper as I don’t see McCarthy being able to play in this team and Bazunu has had injuries. We need a bit more pace and strength if we get promoted so that has to be a key component for any new signings. |

I hope Tonda will at some point tell them to stop letting the crosses in to the box. It is no wonder we can’t keep clean sheets when the defence has to deal with so many balls in to the box, as well as the other ways they are put under pressure. If you stop the crosses the opposition can only go from side to side.
Another win against a decent well organised team. I am usually a fan of getting a 3 goal lead before taking the foot of the gas but as we quickly restored the 2 goal lead then we avoided a nervy second half. If we win the next 2 then we are right back in business. |

Spurs play at Newcastle tonight though, not at the weekend so if they get stuffed and lose at the weekend then he may be gone this time next week.
We have also cleared out the assistants and back room staff ready for a top manager with his own team..people can laugh but there aren’t many better options outside the Prem than us. |

I half expect to see Stephens back in for Quarshie and Braggy to start again with Ori coming on after 70 mins when we’re 3-0 up. Scienza is ill so maybe the 3rd change will be Robbo back in for him, we will need his pace and skill without Leo.
No reason why we can’t get at least a draw today and hope to then hear the announcement of a 3.5 year contract for Eckert. I don’t care how inexperienced he is as a manager, he has been involved enough is clearly intelligent as well as having an edge.

Tremendous again. Tonda has done a lot more than just organise us and keep a stable line up. He’s quite simply ‘got it’. It’s a no brainer to give him the job, nothing will change whether he’s interim or full time. He knows what he’s doing and the players know it.. you don’t hit 4 on the bounce straight off the bat in this league unless you’re have all the tools. Can’t wait to see him announced as our manager. Jones wasn’t the worst manager we had, he did win away at Palace in the FA Cup then beat City at home 2-0 in the other cup, a major shock, then he won away at Goodison for our first win there since Kevin Davies. I think he was mainly disliked because of his valleys accent. Yes he wasn’t the right man but he was better than Selles, Juric and Rusk and wouldn’t have done any worse than Martin in the PL. But I get the humour and the banter due to some of his interviews, which were awful.
I think you have to give the job to Eckert, he clearly has a plan and strategy and is bringing the best out of our new signings as well as knowing which youth players he can trust. When Brighton put in Hurzeler, he has only had one decent season with Pauli, getting them promoted, I can see Eckert doing the same. We would be foolish to lose him now, the players clearly like him.
Just a quick mention to Bragg who was involved and important in the game, a great first start to remember. Jander is top drawn for me and Fellows and Azaz looked to be settled and moving forwards now after a Still start.
The next 2 games will show us if Tonda is indeed the man, if we pick up another 4 points then he has to be offered the job. |

Gary ONeil plays the same system, if we employ that skate to carry on the same stupidity then SR are clearly a deep state operation brought here to destroy the mighty Southampton FC. It can’t be him.
I hope we can scrape another win today and entice someone who plays attacking football, not the opposite. We looked so nervous at the end on Wednesday hopefully we have got that monkey off the back now. |

We put in place a 32 year old who hasn’t played the game, has zero experience in English football and we were expecting him to manage a team with aspirations of returning to the biggest and toughest league in the world… it was madness in hindsight.
I agree we shouldn’t have given new contracts to McCarthy and Stephens, we desperately needed a new keeper and a decent striker like Thomas Asante. The board and Spors have not delivered anything like the quality we need with half of the purchases. We play a wing back system with no wing backs in the squad and Still doesn’t think the issue is the system yet we are constantly overrun in midfield by inferior teams. Each game has become so predictable and the decisions become stranger and more harmful by the week.
I think there are far better options out there for us than Still, he’s clearly out of his depth and it’s a step too early in his career. |
