St.Georges Day
at 12:44 23 Apr 2019

With all the hoo hah about Dale`s almost certain great escape,I hope you Daleys haven`t forgotten that today,23rd April,is St.Georges Day,a day we always celebrated back in the day. Maybe not so much these days, but a date that says we`re English and it needs to be remembered. If it`s good enough for the Taffies,Micks and Jocks to celebrate there Saints days,it`s good enough for us to still remember ours.

Rochedale
at 07:06 19 Feb 2019

Had a trip back to New Zealand recently and happened to go into an English style pub,the Prince Albert,in Cambridge, heart of the country`s horse racing industry. Got my pint of Kilkenny and walked around looking at all the various prints of rural England obviously from a couple of hundred years ago. The most interesting was a Map of Lancaster, showing Rochedale with the middle e and in quite bold letters as opposed to other towns and hamlets. Is this how Rochdale was spelt back in the day? If so,does anybody know when and why the middle e was dropped off? I`ve googled the town many times and have never seen it spelt thus, but there`s a suburb in Brisbane that does call it Rochedale, implying the people who settled there in the 1800s came from SE Lancashire.

No football this weekend in Liverpool,so the lads toddle off to Haydock Park for Saturday afternoon entertainment. You couldn’t make this up.

Is this the same bloke who went to St.Pats RC school and played for that great Sacred Hearts team of the late 60s alongside Johnny Taylor and Chris Shyne? Ming, you might be able to help out here?

Correct me if I`m wrong, but from glancing through Dale`s results this year,it appears that Joe has only been on the bench for the first game at Burton. Is he injured? Has he been allowed time off to push his book? Or is there another reason that nobody wants to talk about?

KH ahead of Sunderland game
at 23:55 21 Sep 2018

Just seen five and a half minutes of Keith Hill getting all excited for today`s big game and for the future of the club. Says he has a great bunch of players that he expects to only get better and of course sell on should the opportunity arise. Seven injured players at the moment, but he doesn`t seem worried, the fit players all looking forward to playing at the Stadium of Light.

Just seen on the BBC pages that he`s passed away, aged 86. Any of you old timers ever see Jimmy play for Burnley and Stoke City? A truly great player, saw him many times at Turf Moor when Harry Potts was the manager, the Clarets having a top side, late fifties, early sixties. He still lived in Burnley, the club was the love of his life.

Telephone number

Hi fellas, can anybody please tell me how to ring the office from overseas. I`ve got 08261907,obviously that`s the number if you`re ringing from the UK,but I`ve tried all sorts of combinations for the International Prefix only to hear that the number`s not in use. Why isn`t it 1706 any more like Hornets is? Thanks.

Amazing scenes at Ninian Park.....

....Cardiff managed to miss two penalties in the last two minutes against Wolves, who won the match 1-0. Madine, who still hasn`t scored for the Bluebirds, had his penalty turned around the post by Ruddy, then with seconds to go,Hoillet hit his spot kick against the bar! I only saw the last ten minutes,Mendez-Lang was conspicuously quiet as he was at Sheffield United. Definitely not a Premier League player that bloke.

Referees

Who appoints the refs these days? I can`t get my head around them appointing a bloke from Leicestershire for a game between two Lancashire clubs, when that bloke who reffed us at Wembley is just down the road in Wigan. With the weather as it is,the Leicestershire ref might not be able to get to Rochdale, but even if he does, what`s the point if the conditions are so bad the game will be called off anyway.

Excuse my ignorance, but I see they`ve just "played the last game at White Hart Lane" after 118 years. A new stadium is to be built on the same site, hopefully to be ready for the 2018/19 season, but it`ll still be White Hart Lane.....won`t it?

Probably the most influential rock n roll man ever. Where would the Beatles,Stones, indeed most top British bands of the sixties be without his iconic songs of the time, along with Bo Diddley and Ray Charles? The music scene should salute the man who gave us so much.

Bolton Wanderers......
at 08:51 16 Dec 2016

.......losing 800,000 grand a month according to their chairman Ken Anderson. If it keeps going to the end of the season that`s four million and more. How can any football club,or any reasonable sized business survive that? Anderson says he wants to buy the club off Dean Holdsworth, says all the big money players will be gone at the end of the season, the very players that got them relegated in a big way in the first place. So if they get promoted,as is a reasonable assumption, the best players will no longer be there next season, but there`ll obviously be no money to get players in of Championship ability,so they may as well stay where they are.

Kick off

So what`s this at the kick off, kicking the ball backwards, when and why was this changed? To me it`s one of the fundamentals of the game, the ball must go forward from the centre spot at least its full circumference.

Vernon Thomas
at 04:49 17 Apr 2016

Don`t suppose there`ll be many Dale fans who can remember my father,Vernon Thomas, but he passed away in Hamilton New Zealand today,Sunday 17th,April,aged 94. Dad was a postman in Littleborough from the late fifties through to the early seventies, then read meters for the Electric Board, before him and mum shifted up to County Durham in 1975. Dad was born in Withington and supported City during the thirties when they won the cup, league and got relegated all in the space of four years. He came to Rochdale just after the war and had that newsagents shop on Ramsey Street for a few years, before we moved to the top end of Oswald Street. Anyway,it was through him taking me to Spotland and Athletic Grounds as a nipper in the fifties, that I fell in love with both codes,as I assume is the case with most of us. I always rang him on Sundays to let him know how Dale,United and City went on only a few hours before and he never lost his interest in the game. He took me to see United play Arsenal in late 1957,so though I can`t remember much about the game (United won 4-2) I got to see Edwards,Taylor,Whelan,Byrne and Coleman.
Anyway, just thought I`d pass that on to anybody who might remember him.

Are the FA planning on a fifty year World Cup Final celebration with the still surviving squad members of the two countries,England and (West) Germany,on July 30th? I see it`s a Saturday again,so a good day/weekend to have a commemoration with no football on other than friendlies.
