Reports from Bradford have suggested that the transfer of Jon Shaw from Halifax to Rochdale may have cost us £60,000 after the Valley Parade club pulled out of a move to sign the Conference Player of the Year due to the money that he would cost.

Speaking in the Bradford Telegraph & Argus newspaper, Bradford manager Stuart McCall admitted that he had been interested in bringing Shaw to the Bantams but would not meet the asking price that the administrators had been asking for.

He told the newspaper: "We spoke to Jon six weeks ago about coming here but it was at a stage where everybody else thought Halifax were going to the wall and his contract would be terminated, allowing him to go for free.

“He seems very positive and ambitious and we got told if Halifax had to drop down a few divisions, then he would become a free agent. We would have taken him as one of four strikers at the club but we weren’t prepared to pay £60,000 for him. "

The striker was also linked with moves to Stockport County and Bury before agreeing to join Dale - a switch that Shaw himself described as saying "Rochdale didn’t have to do a hard sell on me after the performances last year and them nearly getting promoted. It’s a great boost"
