Skysports have announced that Ben Muirhead has left Rochdale to seek pastures new. Story online now.

Midfielder Ben Muirhead has left Rochdale this afternoon by mutual consent.

The winger had originally impressed during a loan spell from Bradford City back in Keith Hill’s first season scoring important goals on his debut away at Notts County as well grabbing a brace in the 7-2 win away at Stockport County.

Unfortunately, after signing on a free during the summer ahead of the Centenary season, Muirhead failed to replicate the form he enjoyed during his loan spell with the likes of Kallum Higginbotham being preferred instead.

Muirhead was transfer-listed during the summer as the club decided to look at other players instead with midfielders such as Simon Heslop and Michael Barnes being looked at instead.

Muirhead told Sky Sports "I have cancelled my contract at Rochdale after holding talks with the club over my future."

"I felt I had no choice but to leave after becoming unsettled at the club for various reasons.”

"I have enjoyed my time at Rochdale, including the winning goal in the play-off semi-final and I wish all the players and fans all the best, but I believe I was stagnating at the club.”

Muirhead’s departure leaves a gap in the squad that could be filled with the likes of Michael Barnes, who has featured twice this pre-season, and Gavin Rothery who scored against Hyde last night.

RochdaleAFC.com would like to wish Ben Muirhead the best of luck in finding a new club.
