tRAMsfer news: Clough Delighted As Ram Becomes Red!
Tuesday, 28th Jun 2011 13:47 by Daniel J Sewart

DCFC confirmed today that they have loaned Miles Addison to Barnsley until January after last week securing the 22 year old until 2013. Nigel Clough hopes Miles will return to the Rams better for the experience.

After Derby stole the Tykes Captain and player of the year in Jason Shackell, perhaps Derby feel they should help plug the gap at the back for Barnsley - very public spirited to say the least!

Nigel spoke to the official site about a move he thinks will be beneficial for both player and club:

"Miles was in and out of the team in the second half of last season and Barnsley can give him the first team football that we can't right now. He had an awful long time out of action, especially when you also consider the time he spent playing with the injury prior to the operation."

"He has gone to Barnsley to play games, but part of the loan was that he agreed to extend his contract here and we are delighted with that. Miles will be there for six months and we will review things again in January."

"He needs to play games more than anything right now and Barnsley will give him that chance to play 23 games and get his sharpness and match fitness up."

Last week Tom Glick made it quite clear Miles was a part of the clubs future plans:

"First and foremost, the new contract sends a message to Miles that he is part of our future. Everyone remembers how well he played in the 2008/09 and 2009/10 season, and because of that he was capped by England's under-21 team.”

"We expect him to get back to that level in time, but we also want him to continue to develop and mature as a player so we will look whether that will be in our first team initially, or out on loan.”

"His work ethic in getting himself back early from injury has been terrific and he has had no negative consequences because of that. He is fully fit and now just needs to get matches under his belt and get match fit again."

Getting games into Addison’s legs to improve his match fitness, form and confidence will be a good move but should the Rams have waited until Shaun Barker is ready to roll?

The Derby Captain will miss the start of the season as he returns from an off-season operation and with him unavailable for selection it is an interesting quandary.

At this point Anderson, Leacock and Buxton would be available to partner the newly signed Shackell in defence but would Addison have been a preferred option over those three? Especially as all have battled their own injury issues in recent times.

It is hard to say as all three at their best are more than capable of keeping the seat warm for the Rams skipper but Addison could quite easily be considered better than the trio.

It is important the club gets off to a good start and the selection of the back four will be one of the most important tactical decisions for the opening clash.

Would keeping Addison around for a few weeks into the new season been of benefit?

I suppose that question will be answered by results.

What do you think of Addison's loan to the Tykes?
