Thorpe signs for Darlington
Thorpe signs for Darlington
Thursday, 2nd Jul 2009 16:59

Former Dale striker Lee Thorpe has wasted no time in finding himself a new club by signing for League Two rivals Darlington, having spent almost eighteen months at Spotland.

With Darlington having suffered administration during the Summer, they have lost the bulk of their squad, including Jason Kennedy to our good selves.

As such, they have announced a total of ten signings today, one of which was former Dale striker Lee Thorpe. An Ex File review of Thorpe will be appearing on this site over the next few days. There is no news on the length of the contract agreed by Thorpe.

Also amongst the ten signings was former Dale wingman Jeff Smith. He played just one game on a loan spell from Bolton many years ago that got cut short.

The signings are very much "agreed to sign" as with Darlo still under the terms of administration, this prevents them making any actual signings until they come out of this spell. This is expected to go through in the next few days where ownership will be transferred back to George Houghton who took them into administration in the first place.

Having repaid their debts at a rate of 0.9p in the pound, he will be selling the debt free club to former director Raj Singh. It is not expected that there will be any further points deductions for the Quakers as a result of their administration period.

Back to Thorpe, it is hoped for his sake that his visit to Darlington is more successful than his last one which saw him break his arm on the way to the Play Off game between Dale and Darlo at the end of the 2007-8 season.
