York put their off-field difficulties to one side as they recorded their seventh home success of the season with a 3-1 win over struggling Swansea. The Minstermen, who could have been playing their last game if the club's Supporters Trust had not pledged £92,000 to see them through the next four weeks, made the perfect start when they took an early lead. Peter Duffield placed a penalty into the bottom corner of the net for his 14th goal of the season after Alan Tate had fouled Michael Reddy in the area. Rock-bottom Swansea had new loan signing Kevin Nugent in their side as one of three changes to the team that lost to Bury, and they equalised when home defender Jon Parkin sliced the ball into his own net following a dangerous low cross. York restored their advantage just before the break when Duffield headed the ball high into the net from close range after the Swans had failed to deal with a long throw-in. Lee Nogan glanced a header inches wide after the interval as York attempted to extend their lead before Reddy, on loan from Sunderland, did just that when he finished from close range after Graham Potter had crossed from the left. |
