Swansea City boss Brendan Rodgers admits that a deal for Marcos Senna is too expensive for the club

The Spanish international has been linked with a move to south Wales for a number of weeks, but hopes of pulling off a massive coup look to be dead in the water.

A deal had previously looked to be on, with Senna's agent talking up the prospect of a move to Swansea, but an agreement on a new contract at Villarreal is now thought to be imminent.

“I spoke to Marcos and our initial feedback was positive,” Rodgers told the Evening Post.

“He was keen to come but I think it may well be that the deal will end up being a bit too rich for us.”

Swans chariman Huw Jenkins said: “There is obviously a big difference between speaking to a player and actually signing them, and I’m sure a player of his standing will have been inundated with options.”
