Leo Scienza A Doubt For The Trip To Stoke City
Wednesday, 28th Jan 2026 13:05

With 57 minutes gone at Fratton Park, Leo Scienza was on top of the world after scoring the opener in the derby against Portsmouth, but 10 minutes later he was limping off the pitch and now could miss the trip to Stoke.

According to The Daily Echo Leo Scienza is "Battling to be available" for the trip to the Bet365 Stadium.

But Tonda Eckert is remaining positive about the situation and is hopeful that he might be fit.

"He looks good, and he is desperate to help the team

"He'll train separately from the group, but we are very positive that he and us will make everything possible to have him on the pitch on Saturday."

That does not sound too hopeful that he will be fit for Saturday, although he might just pass muster for a place on the bench.

There is no doubt that Scienza will be a big miss for the team should he fail what will be a late fitness test, however it might create an opening for the likes of Jay Robinson to come in and re create his early season form.

More likely though is that Tom Fellows will come into the starting line up and if he does then it would be interesting to see him start on the left.

On the right Fellows has looked sharp with his running at the opposition and carrying the ball forward, however his shooting from his weaker left foot has not been great, he could benefit from playing on the left and cutting inside bringing the ball on to his stronger right foot when shooting at goal, that has certainly worked well for Leo Scienza.

Not unexpected surely ? It doesn't surprise me, and some of those fouls were quite brutal.
One commentator said that he was already "the most-fouled player" in the Championship.´
It's only sense to play him for just 60 minutes as we are still halfway through the season.

Suspect at Stoke we may want an extra DM on for most of the game, so Shea Charles now has an opportunity to up his minutes.

I think the referees have generally given Scienza very little protection by failing to book (or even send off) those who have consequently got away with persistently fouling him. A big disappointment for me this aspect of refereeing in the Championship.

Tonda said there is a good chance he will be fit enough to play
It will be interesting come May to see how many cards have been issued for fouls on Leo
