Watford 0 v 1 Southampton EFL Championship Saturday, 30th October 2021 Kick-off 15:00 |
Sadoldgit added 17:25 - Oct 30 Excellent performances from Tino, Salisu, KWP, Bertrand, McCarthy and a wonderful finish from Che. Armstrong was unlucky with his efforts and once he gets the next one I’m sure the goals will flow. Have to feel for Ralph. We would be well up the table if only our finishing had been better this season. I’d be tempted to play Lyanco instead of Bednarek on Friday. Oh, and KWP has shown why he starts at LB. Was excellent first half. I_would added 17:43 - Oct 30 SaintPaulVW added 18:13 - Oct 30 Great performance, again should have been 3 nil up at half time but one was enough. KWP, Tino, Salisu played really well. JWP looked better than he has this season, the rest must have done him good. Ralph has got 7 points from 9 out the first 3 games in this fairly crucial 5 game period. COYR KriSaint added 00:47 - Oct 31 Three important points, and I'm very happy 'bout it. We should have been up with 2 or 3 goals after halftime, though, and I do hope we will become sharper in the finishing department. That said, what a brilliant finish by Ché Adams, and Adam A. really tried hard. Lovely that he at least got an assist today. Always a little nerve wrecking to defend a 1-0 lead, and, totally against the run of play, Watfords substitute Fletcher could actually easily have stolen 2 points from us at the end if it hadn't been for McCarthys brilliant reaction on the goal line diving to his right to palm the shot away for a corner. Good to see Ralph get the substituting right, though it could have happened a little earlier. JWP was on a yellow and was running out of energy, and Diallo came on and did well , as did Lyanco in his PL debut - coming on as an extra CB / deep lying DM when he came on for a tired Romeu towards the end. Stuey got about 20-25 minutes which was good to see; he came on for Moi E. who played ok, running a lot to find space and holding the ball well and doing well in link-up play. He has definitely become a better and more confident player and he strikes me more and more as a good team player to have in our squad. Our defense was rock solid. Great to see KWP get the nod as LB, now that Tino has made the RB position his own - and rightly so. Fantastic signing, Tino. Can't believe he's only 18 and congrats' to him for becoming only the tenth player in PL history under 19 who's played every minute of the first 10 league matches. GET IN THERE and bring on Villa! KriSaint added 00:57 - Oct 31 And let's hope Danny Ings and Co. are still behind us in the table come Friday evening. It feels GREAT to be above (especially) Villa. KilkennySaint added 03:08 - Oct 31 Good win against a team who must have been full of confidence after their win against Everton, good team performance with special shout out to McCarthy and Walker Peters, only concern is not scoring enough goals compared to the amount of chances we create, not just today but since the season started. carolinasaint added 04:12 - Oct 31 Finally, dominance pays off! Mind you, the scoreline could and should have been more comfortable, with missed chances plaguing both Adams and A Armstrong, but the difference in this one was that Ralph played more pragmatically late in game, packing things back a bit more and bringing on sensible defensive substitutes (e.g. Lyanco on for Romeu, changing things to a back five with Stuart dropping into central midfield). Oh, the other difference is that the one good chance Watford had was turned away fantastically by McCarthy, who generally had a solid performance. Individually, no especially great standouts for me, though Livramento and KWP deserve mention and Romeu had his usual solid game in CM. Reveling in the three points!
