Town Amongst Trio Targeting Spurs Youngster

TWTD understands that Town, Reading and Burnley have all offered contracts for next season to Tottenham right-back Adam Smith, who is currently on loan at Bournemouth. The 19-year-old’s terms at White Hart Lane are up in the summer.

Londoner Smith came through the youth ranks at Spurs and has won England caps at U16, U19 and U20 levels.

The 5ft 8in tall full-back has been unable to break into the Tottenham first team but was on the bench for their UEFA Cup games against NEC Nijmegen and Shakhtar Donetsk during the 2008/09 season.

A county and district 1,500m champion as a schoolboy, Smith went on loan to Wycombe Wanderers between August and October 2009, making four full appearances.

The former Tottenham U18s captain spent the rest of that campaign at Torquay, where he made 18 starts.

This season Smith has been with Bournemouth since September, new Burnley boss Eddie Howe taking him to Dean Court initially for a month with the deal subsequently being extended until the end of the season. He has now made 30 starts and one sub appearance for the Cherries, but is yet to score a career goal.

Meanwhile, Town are reported to have renewed their loan interest in West Brom striker Simon Cox, which if true would be little surprise given that manager Paul Jewell refused to rule out a future move for the 23-year-old former Swindon frontman when his initial offer was rebuffed earlier in the month.
