Rebuffed Pompey Bid Now Claimed to Be Town's
Sky Sports are now reporting that it's Town who have had a double bid for Joel Ward and Jason Pearce (left) turned down by Portsmouth. Earlier, the satellite broadcaster was reporting that Watford were the club involved.
Given Portsmouth's current off-field issues, the Blues are likely to have gone in relatively low with their initial bid, perhaps around £1 million. They may now look to increase their offer but probably not by any huge amount at this stage.
Portsmouth’s current situation is complicated with their parent company Convers Sports Initiatives in administration, but with Sicilian-American businessman Joseph Cala set to complete a takeover, perhaps before the end of this week.
With the change of ownership so close, it appears unlikely that Pompey would take offers at this stage.
However, Cala has already stated his intention to cut the wage bill once his takeover is complete, which may suggest that the Hampshire club may ultimately be willing to accept some offers, although Ward and Pearce are unlikely to be amongst the higher earners.
Yesterday, TWTD broke the news that the Blues had made offers for the Pompey pair.
