Widdowson leads released list

Joe Widdowson, Dean Holden and David Lucas were the only players to be released by Dale on Friday in a retained list which raised one or two eyebrows.

In what was promised as a squad overhaul, supporters were surprised to see that just three players were released from Dale at the end of the relegation season.

New deals were offered to Joe Thompson, Kevin Amankwaah, Jean-Louis Apka Akpro, and Simon Hackney with further talks expected to take place with Brian Barry-Murphy over a new deal.

There remains a number of contracted players at the club, with Nicky Adams at present being the only one to be placed on the transfer list. It is expected that there will be further departures from those contracted before the start of 2012-13.

As things stand, our squad looks as follows:

Goalkeepers:

Matty Edwards

Defenders:

Marcus Holness

Stephen Jordan

Neill Byrne

Marc Twaddle

Sam Minihan

Midfielders:

Gary Jones

Jason Kennedy

Andrew Tutte

Nicky Adams

Forwards:

Godwin Abadaki

Reece Gray

Ashley Grimes

Saints go into the last two games of the season with their hopes of automatic promotion ended, even the hope of finishing 3rd is only a point away from being ended, but they do have something to play for and that is getting back the togetherness, character & fight Russell Martin has recently be moaned.
No Togetherness No Character No Fight
Not my words, but those of Southampton manager Russell Martin, who should ask himself the question why two months ago we had all those attributes and now we don't !
Southampton At Leicester The Debacle
The big question is how can a side that was so tight at the back, so clinical up front and who could pass the ball around almost with their eyes closed, become the disorganised rabble that they were at the Leicester City this evening.
