Rodgers - New Contract Could Be Done By End Of Month

Brendan Rodgers says that his new contract could be in place by the end of the month

Rodgers is still on his twelve month rolling deal that he signed when he arrived at Swansea in the summer of 2012.   But there has been much talk of a new deal and that new deal now looks as if it is just around the corner.

"I had a really good chat with the chairman on Wednesday — that was the first time we've had a chance to sit down and talk about it," he said.

"We talked over a few points and I think it should all be fairly straightforward.

"There are items I need to ensure are in the contract and likewise there are those that must be there for the club so that we are both protected.

"When I came here I signed a one-year rolling contract and said 'judge me and see where we go'.

"The most important thing is that the club and I share the same vision, and we have talked over things like training facilities and future investment in the squad as well as finances.

"I don't see there being any major difficulties — there are just minor details to sort out, not major hurdles.

"The framework of the contract is in place, it's just about agreeing terms now and, like I say, that looks like being reasonably straightforward.

"Once it gets put down in writing and it's put in front of me, hopefully it can all be done by the end of the month.

"I want to show my commitment to the club in terms of trying to build for the future, but not only that I want the club to be protected if anything develops down the line," he added.

"Likewise it's about protecting myself and my family — of course you have to talk about salary and that sort of thing.

"But I have a brilliant relationship with the chairman. Huw and I get on very, very well and we speak three or four times a week, so he knows how much I enjoy it here.

"A lot of clubs would be going back and forth to agents in this situation, but it doesn't work like that here. I'm sure we can get an agreement fairly soon."
