Hero To Zero To Hero - Rams Rocket To 4th As Sammon Steals It Late

Conor Sammon ensured Pride Park received a fitting farewell when he scored the winner in stoppage time. The Rams were far from their best but despite having their lead pegged back by Boro - in the end they found a way.

A goal on the stroke of half time by Chris Martin looked to have the Rams on course for victory but when Dean Whitehead levelled it up for Boro half way through the second half, a point seemed to look more and more likely as time ticked away.

Just as Rams attacks fizzled out and all hope looked lost, super sub Conor Sammon bobbed up to lift the ball over Shay Given, to give the Rams all 3 points and send them to the dizzying heights of 4th on the table.

Considering the ridiculous criticism that Conor received for not always magically pulling the Rams from the fire as a sub - it was satisfying to see the bullies amongst Rams fans silenced by the striker once again.

His tireless work rate and commitment to the cause is an inspiration to every player around him and once he took the field did everthing in his power to lift the Rams - and what a lift it was! Right up to 4th place in fact!!

Derby as a team looked lethargic and unable to start their engines, very much a carbon copy of many of the poorer games at home this season. The difference this time was that they found a way to win and that was largely due to the attacking substitutions of Steve McClaren who ended up with 4 strikers on pitch as he chased a winner.

Good teams win any way they can and Derby are proving to be a good team so this 3 points may be more proof they are heading in the right direction!
