Saints can breathe again as it looks like Dani Osvaldo will not be returning to the club during this transfer window.
Inter Milan will have been pondering just what to do with Osvaldo over the last week or so after his public spat on the field against Juventus with his own team mate and the questions they will be asking themselves boil down to the three options they actually have on the deal with Saints.
The first is the drastic option of sending him back to St Mary's, the issue here is that to do that they have to have a very good reason and probably this spat isnt big enough in that no punches were thrown etc, spats like this are fairly common at football clubs although most are behind closed doors. That being the case, Saints not wanting the player back are probably unlikely to let Inter get away with this as an exscuse.
That being the case,Inter are now down to two options, the first of those is that they keep Osvaldo, tricky in that although the spat was fairly minor in the sceme of things to warrant being able to cancel the deal, it will probably be having a big impact in their dressing room.
That being thecase they will probably have to try and go for the only option they have of getting rid of him, this is where it gets complicated in that any further loan deal done would be between Inter and the club they manage to getto take Osvaldo till the end of the season.
Saints possibly could have the power of veto, but other than that it would be strictly between Inter and the now third party club, this could lead to the absurd situation where three clubs are actually paying for Osvaldo, his reputed £65k wages will be mainly paid for by Saints with Inter picking up around 40 %of them, possibly even less, but they wont be able to offload him elsewhere unless they make it a cut price deal, so they will probably have to sweeten the deal for the club taking Osvaldo by offering to pay some of the agreed wages.
The club being mooted in the Italian press as being interested in a possible deal are Genoa and Saints fans wait with baited breath to see what happens, certainly the situation needs to be respolved as the last thing Saints want is Inter trying to cancel the deal late in January and a protracted argument as we are trying to concentrate on any transfer business we are trying to do ourselves.
