Promotion for Pompey? How about two of them?
Paul Cook's eyes are not just on Pompey promotion - they're on two promotions.
The new Fratton manager comes to the south coast having gone close to taking Chesterfield from League Two to the Championship.
The Spireites reached the play-offs in their first season in League One directly after coming up from Lewague Two and Pompey fans will be hoping Cook can inspire the Blues to a similarly-pacy ascent.
He told The News Pompey would not be out of place in the second tier, adding: ‘It’s the appeal of building the club. It’s the appeal of thinking where could we take this club.
‘I believe, in today’s market, we could be a Championship club. The Premier League is a completely different animal. But I do think we can get Portsmouth into the Championship. If that’s possible we’ll do everything possible to achieve it.’
Meanwhile the players Cook does not want have started to find new homes.
Striker Ryan Taylor has signed for Oxford, a club he'd been linked with before deciding to leave Fratton, while Wes Fogden and Dan Butler are both reported to be interesting other clubs in the same division.
