Monk - We Didn't Quite Have Killer Touch

Garry Monk was not a disappointed man at the end of the Swans final pre-season friendly which they drew 0-0 at home with Deportivo La Coruna.

The Swans did probably just have the better of the chances during the game and Monk was mindful that the killer chance wasn’t quite there in the game for his side.

His focus will now turn to next week’s season opener at Chelsea and there will have been things that he learned from this week’s game that will give him food for thought in the week.

He admits that he does not know who his starting line up will be next week although some of that will be a coy reply to a pointless question as no manager is going to show his full hand a week before any fixture.

Speaking at the press conference after the game Monk said "It was hard to know what to make of that game to be honest. First half we started really well and we had a few chances and should have got a goal.

"The game went in spurts with a couple of minutes of action and then nothing before another spurt — it was a bit of a strange game.

"All in all it was a good workout but in the final third we just lacked the final touch. I’m not disappointed it was just a strange game in the way that it flowed.

"It was an honest game — both teams wanted to win but we couldn’t find the killer touch and couldn’t quite do it today.

"I’m happy where the squad is at the moment — the squad looks strong and we have options. I’m under no illusions how tough next week is but it is one that we are looking forward to.

"We are determined to try and improve on what we did last season but as I have said before this is going to be the hardest season in the Premier League yet.

"Pre-season is difficult to judge in terms of games but I have been pleased with how it is gone.

"I am not 100% clear of my starting line up for next week — we will see how the training goes in the week and select the team towards the end of the week.”
