Saints Linked With Ex Monaco Manager.

The press have been speculating that Saints have already identified a replacement for Mark Hughes should the next few weeks not see an improvement.

The man who is being linked is former Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim.

Jardim has just been sacked by Monaco and has been replaced replaced by Thierry Henry after a poor start to the season. But he won the French title with the club in 2016-17, also reaching the Champions League semi finals that season.

He is credited with putting together a brilliant young team including players like Kylian Mbappe, Thomas Lemar, Almany Toure and Benjamin Mendy and this being a trait that Saints look for in a manager it is natural that given our current plight we would be the first club linked.

The draw at Bournemouth will have relieved some pressure on Mark Hughes but the Newcastle game next week will be a biggie, if we were to lose then perhaps what is at the moment rumour might have some substance, Saints might feel the need to act fast if Jardim is available, it is unlikely that he wil be out of work long, it is merely about when a club of reasonable stature needs a manager and Saints will know that is something that they can't afford to gamble with.

The truth though is probably that at this stage it is little more than his agent trying to stir up interest in his newly unemployed client.

Jardim spent four years at Monaco after starting out in coaching at the age of 27 being another Portugese manager who did not play professionally at any great level, he hit the radar when he got SC Beira-Mar promoted to the Portugese top flight and then had successful spells at Braga, Olympiacos in Greece and Sporting Lisbon before joining Monaco in the summer of 2014.

His four seasons in charge saw him finish 3rd in his first two seasons followed by the title in his third and then last season 2nd place, but a poor start this term has cost him his job.
