Saints Look To Italy For Striker On Loan

Saints are said to have made an offer to AC Milan for a striker on loan, but the Italian club want a permanent deal.

Saints are being reported in Italy as having made an offer to AC Milan for their striker Andre Silva.

According to Italian sports daily Gazzetta dello Sport, Southampton have now come forward with a proposal to take Silva to England on loan, with an option to buy set at 18m euros

Silva joined AC Milan from Porto in home country of Portugal back in 2017 for around 35 million euros, but his first season at the San Siro was not a success and last season he was loaned to Sevilla who had an option to buy at 30 million euros, however despite the fact he regained his scoring touch scoring 9 times in 27 La Liga appearances it seems Sevilla are baulking at paying this fee.

Silva who has played 33 times for Portugal scoring 15 goals will turn 24 in November and seems to be of the right type of player that Saints will be looking for in this transfer window.

Ac Milan are reported to have rejected Saints initial offer and are looking at a permanent deal at 25 million euros, given that Saints would also have to pay a loan fee if there offer was accepted , possibly around the same amount that Sevilla paid of 4 million euros for the season, then Saints valuation of the player is not that far off AC's.

That means that there is scope for manoeuvre with the main sticking point being whether Saints are willing to gamble on paying out a club record transfer for a player who although still at a young age has not yet fulfilled his early promise at Porto.

On the face of it this could be an exciting signing for Saints, but how much of this has any substance and how much is the notorious Italian footballing media trying to stir up interest in the player for AC Milan is yet to be revealed.
