All the talk lately has been about the partnership between Harry Kane & Heung- Min Son, but away from the sycophantic London media a duo just as lethal has been forming on the South Coast.
The old adage has always been strikers hunt in pairs and certainly the media have been agreeing with that as they salivated over Harry Kane & Son's performances for Tottenham Hotspur.
But I would say that Danny Ings and Che Adams since the return of football in the summer have been quietly forming a partnership just as lethal away from the spotlight.
Quite often when one scores the other has been involved somewhere, take the draw at Chelsea, Che Adams won the ball in midfield and then played slide rule pass for Danny Ings to score, for the equaliser
Adams did most of the work running through and getting the ball before cutting back, but don't underestimate Ings role in the goal, he might not have got a touch but his run was causing confusion with the goalkeeper and defender and creating space for Adams to pull the ball back and fire home.
Likewise the two goals against Everton, firstly it was Ings who played Ward Prowse through, then he did the same for Adams to fire home the second.
Against West Brom, the move for Djenepo's goal started with Adams playing Ings through before the ball eventually fell to Djenepo who fired home, but the space was created by the running of Ings who opened up room for the shot.
But it goes back further, the winner at Burnley was created by Adams cleverly cutting the ball back for Ings to fire home.
So far this season Saints have scored 10 goals, all have been hard fought for, between them Ings (4) & Adams (2) have scored six of them, but of the other 4 only 2 Romeu's effort against West Brom and Vestergaard's equaliser at Chelsea haven't seen our dynamic duo involved.
Some have suggested that without Danny Ings we would be stuffed, I don't buy that, Che Adams is maturing into a very good striker and he is playing his full part in the partnership both in terms of scoring and creating.
Danny Ings showed last season he could score goals even without a regular partner, Adams is now taking the pressure of him, but if Ings was to be missing I am confident that Adams would step up to the plate and would still offer Saints a goal threat.
They are both different kinds of striker and they complement each other, both can score different kinds of goals, they are not just tap in merchants or from set pieces, they seem to instinctively know where the other is and where to mae runs to make space for themselves of the other.
It is early days yet, but I would say that this might not be the most glamorous partnership, the one that makes the headlines, but I would contend that it is quietly turning into the most workmanlike and lethal.
If you play for the likes of the Big Six it is easy to score goals, at times especially at home you swamp the opposition, for Saints it is not like that, we have to work and work to create openings and from that perspective that makes their partnership all the more satisfying.
The media love the Big Six, they love to write romantically about flowing moves and graceful finishes, that is not the way for Saints, we have to graft to create chances and Ings and Adams do just that.
All they need now is a name for the partnership, perhaps the CID would be apt , the Che Ings Duo, they knock on your door down just when you least expect it .
