You say big clubs, but's it's only because they have all the money. It's not so long ago that the likes of city were in the League one play off final and only won that through a bent referee. Like Liverpool, they hoover up all the best players here and abroad and unsurprisingly get to the top of the Premiership which of course is where the management and players want to be.
