They are rubbish now. We did at least get a mention of our game last night mainly because Calvin Andrew was one of the pundits. Last season I was on the way to our early kick off v Oldham. Rochdale v Oldham and the programme came on early because Stockport and Man City women both had early games and they didn't even mention Rochdale v Oldham being played? This season we've won many games to take us top of the league and not been mentioned on a Saturday or Tuesday. Awful.
So many chances (again). Strange performance from Drysdale too (at least there were no head butts). No yellow or red card for 2nd minute foul on Mani when he is goalside of all the Scunthorpe team and a clear run at goal. And then the penalty which is annoying me even more when I think about it. Surely he asked Mani why he didn't take it? You can see him in conversation with lots of Dale players. Did he not accept Mani's explanation of hearing another whistle from the crowd or someone shouting 'wait'. Why would a number 9 going for a League Championship give up the chance of a free shot at goal for no good reason?
I think deep down after last night and last Saturday most of us now expect York to go and win it. Our bad habit of missing lots of chances created (go back to the Carlisle away win in September) will be our downfall. Our shooting in and around the box is embarrassing at times - just practice more in training! In both ours and Yorks last 10 games we have scored only 1 goal in 5 of those 10 matches. The 1-2 loss v Hartlepool, 1-0 win at Solihull, 1-0 win v Carlisle and now the two 1-1 draws. York drew 1-1 with Southend in the 9 other games they've scored 2's, 3's and a 5. It's hard to drop points when you are scoring for fun.
Unfortunately we've been missing lots and lots of chances all season - earlier in the season we got away with it with all the clean sheets. Not now - unfortunately 2 goals in 2 games isn't enough to win. York would've won that game tonight with all those chances.
Don't think their keeper had any saves to make 2nd half despite being camped in their half - bit like last Saturday our shooting is woeful and we won't win the league now scoring 1 goal a game as our clean sheets have become less frequent. As for the penalty Drysdale is shouting and waving his arms at the players on the edge of the box - I think possibly Mani thought there was a problem and didn't take the kick. Definitely should've been a retake.
Another big test. Can we go again after a mini setback - like we have all season so far? Saturday was also the first game we haven't won when we've gone ahead. I'm sure the players would've been hurting especially after hearing York's very impressive 3-0 away win and losing top spot. Time for a big performance from Rodney who has been way off his best recently - Gilmour must return also. The first game in hand is a must win - the second game in hand at Southend looks on paper the harder game where I would take a point.
I dont feel sorry for him - I just don't think he can be expected to be match ready when he's not even been in a matchday squad recently. It is a calculated risk that hasn't worked 3 times now. Hopefully it won't cost us a Championship.
Is it really fair on him to throw him into the starting line up in a massive promotion game (that's what every game is now) when he's not even been in a matchday squad for nearly a month?
It is telling that 3 games EEL hasn't started - Brackley,Halifax and Yeovil we have lost 2 and drawn the other. We beat Truro at home but that was a home game against a poor side and we were ahead within 2 minutes.
We looked poor in those last 20 minutes - didn't really create that much againt 10 men. Obviously Jim wasn't aware the red card was coming but Dieseruvwe coming off didn't help us at all. Must bounce back and beat Scunthorpe now who have conceded 9 in the last 2 games.
There was a time in the 2nd half Wednesday where he'd beaten the fullback and was racing towards goal - he should easily have been shooting but for some reason he tried passing across goal and the keeper collected it. Whether that was a bit of a lack of confidence at the moment or more because of Jim's passing philosophy I don't know?
Looking at that there are a few tricky games for both teams. Both go to Halifax, both go to Scunthorpe, we go to Southend, York go to Borehamwood - Scunthorpe for us at home next Tuesday as a game in hand is massive.
Liam Hogan was on Manchester Radio last Saturday with Keith Hill all afternoon. Now whether he is injured at the minute or just being given time off I don't know. He's not been involved in any matchday squads since his Truro run (walk) out. I would imagine the back 3 + Whatmuff being more or less a mainstay now for the run in or at least till the title is won by either us or York.
