It’s neither, he’s been released under investigation (RUI). It’s a relatively new concept having been introduced in 2017/2018 by the then Conservative government as part of the Bail Act changes. In short, the legislation introduced a “default position” which required the police to release suspects from Custody without bail unless there were exceptional circumstances e.g risk of harm to victims etc. The expectation was that suspects would be released and subsequently served with a summons through the post! As you can imagine it turned out to be a bit of a cluster @@@@. Some of the Bail Act changes were reversed in subsequent years, but RUI remains an option to deal with some suspects. |

I was thinking that too. If AMW can be busted for misconduct in public office then based on what we’re hearing so should Mandelson. It makes you think what else is in the files that haven’t been released. |

Incorrect. Actual Annual Leave entitlements are based on contracted hours, however payment should be based on average earnings including overtime, but that’s not always clear cut. |
 | Forum Reply | 2026 Unemployment at 10:58 17 Feb 2026
In relation to the second point, quite a few employers (including Tesco) now employ staff on part time contracts for example 4 hours per day but actually require the staff to work “compulsory overtime” in some cases up to and beyond 37.5 hours a week. This means if the staff report sick etc they only get paid their contracted hours, it also makes getting a mortgage more difficult as the contracted hours income etc is so low. Annual Leave payments will also be reduced in comparison to a full time worker. Part time work suits some, as do zero hour contracts, but there are also potentially massive pitfalls. There are good and bad employers out there. |

Fair point. I watch a fair bit of Super Rugby Cymru which is the level below the Regional game. The tournament was created 2 seasons ago and the focus is supposed to be on developing younger players (from academies and fringe players etc) so that they can make the step up to the Regional game. The clubs in the Ospreys region embraced the concept and have squads packed with youngsters, unfortunately that’s not the case across the board. Aberavon, Swansea and Bridgend have all had a few tough seasons but that’s to be expected when you’ve got teams of youngsters playing against teams of old heads and teams consolidated with full time professionals. Swansea have by far the lions share of Ospreys youngsters and players, Bridgend and Aberavon have around 5 each. Instead of mandating that match squads have fixed numbers for of younger players, a ceiling on the number of professionals in a team etc etc there’s no guidance or restrictions whatsoever, so we’re seeing mismatches where teams of youngsters are getting hammered by teams of old heads - how is that developing younger players? By all means have a blended approach where younger players are exposed to old heads, but it has to be balanced. I genuinely believe that a having a Reddin type character in charge of performance is sensible, but that person needs to have a direct input and be able to influence individual performance at the Regions. Budgets are an issue, but I think one of the reasons the Welsh performance has been so poor is because of the level of coaching in our Regional game. If we had top top coaches at the Regions driving up standards, the players would perform better at that level and that would transfer to the international stage. |

That depends on what time the run takes place. Most of the nurses, health care staff start at 7am, doctors and consultants at 9am. If you run at 10 am you won’t see anyone bar patients. |

I’m all in favour of offenders being brought to justice. Maybe when Musk is thinking about funding proceedings about bringing people to justice he could donate some of his substantial resources to bring to justice some of the Epstein offenders in the US. |

The Scarlets draw a lot of support from Gorseinon, Lougher, Pontardulais, and parts of the Gower which are all in her constituency. That said, she should be putting some real pressure on the WRU because there’s people up there who imho need to be booted out. |

He moved to Monaco in 2020 where over 75% of the population are immigrants in the main for tax purposes. You make a fair point about sacking uk employees and bringing in “economic migrants” to play for his football team. I find it a little ironic that he bailed out of the U.K. and in to Europe after backing Brexit which has gone on to prevent many British from moving abroad. FWIW I think immigration has been out of control for a long time, but numbers are decreasing and they need to be managed lower again. Removals are increasing and there is scope to remove many more who are here illegally. If it were me I’d focus on booting out the criminals and go from there. |

This incident goes back to May 2024 and was first in Court in mid July 2024, I don’t think the current government can be held to account for that, but it goes to show how long we’ve been putting up with this nonsense and a failing system. It shines a light in places some members of the last and current government wouldn’t want it to. Anyone who is a visitor to our country must obey the laws of the land, failure to do so should result in their removal. People need to know that actions have consequences. [Post edited 10 Feb 3:00]

The Secret Barrister is correct with his comments. The article by the Daily Telegraph states Lord Hermer approved the fast tracking of Lucy Connolly’s case, but in reality what has actually happened is due process has been followed. Following the 2011 riots, the government conducted a wide ranging review which identified that swift justice was required when dealing with offenders. After the horrendous Southport murders, the police were required to identify, arrest and deal with offenders quickly to prevent the disorder escalating and that is exactly what they did. There’s no better deterrent to a would be offender than seeing another offender being arrested within hours of committing the offence and then getting a serious stretch at Her Majesty’s pleasure the following day. A stretch in prison can certainly focus some people’s minds. Many years ago decisions on Charging suspects would have been a matter for the Custody Officer at a police custody unit, however government reforms were introduced which mandated that the police had to refer cases where they believed there was sufficient evidence to Charge a suspect to the Crown Prosecution for a decision. The intention was to improve standard, lower discontinuance rates at Court and I dare say a fair dollop of saving money. If the police thought they had enough evidence they would either release the suspect on bail pending submission of an advice file to the CPS to obtain a Charging decision from the CPS, or in those cases where the police had the suspect in custody, thought they had enough evidence to Charge AND felt it necessary to remand the suspect to prison whilst awaiting trial, they would need to refer the case directly to CPS, in cases where the Charging decision would be likely to be required outside office hours the case would go to CPS Direct. The changes resulted in significant delays in prosecutions being initiated and a massive increase in the number of cases being referred to the CPS (which was already under huge pressure resource wise.) The problems were subsequently identified and subsequent tweaks to the guidance restored some of the police powers to Charge suspects accused of more minor offending, but the CPS still make most of the calls. Connolly’s case would not fit the criteria for a police charging decision. Connolly was Charged on indictment with an offence of inciting racial hatred contrary to section 19(1) of the Public Order Act 1986. No proceedings for an offence under this Part may be instituted in England and Wales except by or with the consent of the Attorney General hence Lord Hermer’s involvement. The referral to the CPS for a Charging decision for an offence of this nature at a time of mass disorder would be standard practice. What is of concern to me is that Chris Philp, a former Minister Of State for Crime, Policing and Fire and now the shadow home secretary, said: “This clearly shows that the Government wanted to make an example of Lucy Connolly ... she was scapegoated by the Government, and it appears to me that, had she pleaded not guilty, she would have had a good chance of being acquitted.” Is he bumping his gums off for the sake of being heard and political point scoring or does he not understand what has actually happened? She admitted the offence in interview, what part of that doesn’t he understand? How can she admit the offence in a police interview and then go on and deny it in Court? Beggars belief! She would have been laughed out of Court and from her perspective lost the opportunity to maximise her discount for an early guilty plea. It’s a frightening thought that we once had Philip in charge. In terms of the Palestinian Action activists, the abhorrent decision to acquit them is in my opinion a perverse decision and I’m of the view they should be serving a 10+ year stretch at King Charles pleasure as should the miscreants who toppled the Colston statue in Bristol a few years ago. The fact that the defendants in those cases were acquitted is nothing to do with the government or Starmer - they were acquitted by jury. I am against removing the right to trial by jury, but there are the odd occasions when we get verdicts like this that I think there could just be a bit of mileage in it! [Post edited 10 Feb 18:04]

I’m 99% sure that rugby clubs have to submit their orders for tickets and pay for them well in advance of the 6 Nations, and if they don’t order then they won’t get an allocation in future years. I don’t believe there is a facility to return unsold tickets which means if the clubs can’t move them on they take a hit. If you know anyone who wants tickets for a 6 Nations match, encourage them to go on to the Welsh Rugby Tickets Face value or less site on Facebook. It’s a site where rugby clubs who have tickets they can’t move on sell and individuals who are no longer able to go to a game sell their tickets. Just buy through the admin team as they hold the buyers cash until the seller has transferred the ticket to them. Then they release the funds to the seller and the ticket to the purchaser so buyers can’t get scammed by fraudsters. Buying off the clubs ensures local clubs don’t lose out. |

There are stories circulating that this so called “Board of Peace” is an attempt to create an organisation to rival the UN, but obviously with a more American and Trump centric thrust. |

A number of sources are reporting that Badenoch had a meeting with Mike Johnson and that the Chagos deal was brought up in the meeting. Looks like Johnson has then gon3 off and had a word in Trump’s ear hence the comments. |

I agree with much of what you’ve said. I genuinely believe we need to wean ourselves of fossil fuels and reduce our reliance on unreliable regimes and governments, but it needs to be a balanced and blended approach. We should be extracting what’s left in the North Sea instead of importing oil from overseas, it creates jobs, generates revenues and taxes and helps with the balance of payments. Looking in to the future and it seems that AI, cryptocurrency block chains etc all require massive amounts of energy, if we’re going to be in shape for the future we need to able to rely on a reliable source of cheap energy. We’re well behind the curve and have been left down by successive governments over a long period. |

Fair point. If the club are serious about keeping them, they’ll need to make a quality pitch to the boys and their parents and that is likely to include Matos getting involved. Plenty of kids have moved on to bigger clubs and flourished, but more have crashed and burnt. Quality coaching, sincerity and a proper developmental plan could go a long way to getting this over the line. |

It depends on whose stats you want to believe. Wall Street Apes is a site associated with posting false, AI and it is associated with far right postings. Meanwhile, if you go to the horses mouth as it were and actually check the facts, it’s apparent that on the 20th of December 2025 the DHS reported that 605,000 were deported from the US last year and that a a further 1.9m left voluntarily with a free flight and $1,000. Just because something is posted on Twitter and amplified by the likes of Elon Musk doesn’t make it true. It’s a classic disinformation tactic to mislead. https://www.dhs.gov/news/2025/ [Post edited 21 Jan 10:34]

They won’t do that because they want to get shot of 1 region and save the money they’d be paying out to the Ospreys. Allowing someone else to buy the Ospreys would put them back at square 1, unless the Ospreys were to join the Premiership and get their funding elsewhere. |
