I've no problems with the selections apart from misgivings with the centre halves. Personally, I think Branthwaite & Quansah are better defenders & footballers than Dunk or Konsa. In a couple of years time I expect they will be the first choice pairing. Congratulations to Eze & well deserved. [Post edited 7 Jun 10:05]

I did Sir, but not as many as my wife did! Or as many as she did with Roy Stephenson (Ipswich FL winner)! |

You might be on your own Stow. It had no appeal for me! I've only once in my life attended an evening with a footballer & that was for Ale Faurlin last year. I did enjoy that though! Hopefully it will be a good evening for you & perhaps the Ipswich fans will fund your drinks as repayment for the Leeds victory! |

I would think that in all likelihood the 66/67 team would have gained promotion woth or without Rodney. What would have happened after that I wouldn't like to speculate. |

Contracts end on the 30th June. |

I don't think that you can sign a professional contract until you're 18. I would be very surprised if players in the development squad that had reached that age, were not on a professional contract. |

In principle I can't disagree that a club should be able to accept sponsorship from whosoever they want to. However, they would have to show that they have received the published payment into their bank rather than just a paper transaction in their accounts. In reality, it would also be contrary to fair competition & they have to accept the rules of the competition they are playing in. Unless the rules are unlawful. That could be extremely difficult to prove! This action looks to me that they know they have lost their case & are trying to minimalise their punishment. |
| Forum Reply | What is your second sport. at 14:41 4 Jun 2024
It's not regarded as a sport, but I'm hooked on playing Bridge. I wish that I'd learned the game while at school (not on the curicular at a Secondary Modern!) & that I'd then been good enough (not likely) at county & national levels. Starting to play in my 50's was far too late! |

Trafford is at Burnley after they bought him from Manchester City last summer. This was after he was the hero for England in an under age competition. Quashar is a young centre half at Liverpool who has started many a game this season & ended as the preferred partner for Van Dyke. He is far better than Gomez in this position. |

Condolences W13R. I read this directly after receiving a message that the joint manager, with me, of a Sunday team had passed away. Gone, but never forgotten! |

Yes we did & I'd forgotten! The second round had at least 2 all Premier matches as well. It certainly used to be that way & it must have changed in recent seasons, so it would seem strange that they have brought back any seeding. |
| Forum Reply | League cup being messed about with at 10:07 30 May 2024
Unless it has recently changed, which I think it may have, no Championship clubs played against each other in the first round. I'm fairly sure that Premier clubs avoid each other in the second round as well, so this would be a change with minimal effect. |

I'm certain that the club would have checked that the player would qualify for a work permit, but I was under the impression that the rules were tougher for a non British player to join a development squad rathere than the first team. Or perhaps that is only up to 18 years of age? Or that he may be a first team "squad" player that regulary plays for the Development team! Welcome to these two players & hopefully they have more chance of progressing than the players that have recently left the club. |

This reminds me of Ajax just before they peaked. In the European Champions Cup quarter final they lost 3-1 at home to Benfica & then won by the same score in Lisbon. As penalties hadn't been invented at the time & deciding the winners by tossing a coin had been outlawed (the last time I can recall this being used was Liverpool beating Cologne in 1965), a play off in Paris was played. Ajax won 3-0 & went on to reach the final where they lost to AC Milan. In the next four seasons they won the UEFA Cup & then three consectutive Champions Cups. Perhaps, Dusseldorf can use this as a launching pad? Are 1860 Munich still in the third tier? |
| Forum Reply | Away games revenue at 15:55 28 May 2024
I'm assuming that it hasn't changed , but when I was a club secretary of clubs competing in FA Competitions, the split was on profit rather than revenue. We were never in the position that I would know whether the FA had to share a loss with the two clubs! |
| Forum Reply | great song writers...... at 09:53 28 May 2024
The first thing to say is that Art Garfunkel was (and probably still) is NOT a songwriter! I can remember Paul Simon's reaction on Parkinson when Michael asked him who wrote the music & who wrote the lyrics! I'm biased as he is my favourite all time artist, but his songs of the early/mid 60's were relatively simple tunes with words that were special, even for the "folk protest" genre. For this old man, Paul Simon is alongside Bob Dylan & Ray Davies at the top of this list. Carol King & Carly Simon deserve mentioning as well. I'm sure there are many writers that followed just as talented, but it's hard to look past the heros of your youth! |

The story I heard on this theme was "What will you do when the Lord comes?" The reply was "Move St John to inside right!" |

I would think that they are worried about a lot of consticuencies stretching from St Albans to the Berkshire/Wiltshire border. I would think the new Harpenden & Berkhamsted seat will be closely contested. |

Back in the '70's (I might have the wrong decade!) at Colcheter train station - "Harwich for the Continent, Frinton for the incontinent"! Just a slogan that has stayed with me! |
