Southampton Emerge As Favourites As Leeds Fail To Agree Personal Terms
Tuesday, 29th Aug 2023 09:00

Leeds United have failed to agree personal terms with Genk winger Joseph Paintsil and it now seems that Saints could reignite their interest in the player, after Russell Martin spoke of wanting yet another winger before the transfer window closes.

Saints were interested in Joseph Paintsil a couple of weeks ago with talk being of a year long loan swap deal between Saints and Genk and our signing from the Belgium club in January Tall Paul Onauchu going in the opposite direction.

That deal fell through and Leeds stepped into the breach, however motleedsnews.com are claiming that Leeds have agreed to agree personal terms with Paintsil and that the deal is now dead.

They go on to say that Southampton are now back in talks with Paintsil after offering better terms that Leeds and these talks started on Monday will continue today.

The 25 year old winger could be secured for somewhere between £8.5-10 million, although it is not clear what talks have taken place between Saints & Genk and whether Onauchu will emerge as part of the deal in some shape or form, the high wages he is on at St Mary's, unaffordable by Genk, probably this will prevent Onauchu leaving on a permanent basis, but with apparently no future at St Mary's, Saints could perhaps try to make a loan deal part of the transaction.

Whether Leeds interest is at an end in my opinion is debatable, I can see them coming back in at some stage, but in the meantime it seems that it is Southampton that are the favourites.

'yet another winger' is the key phrase here. Goals per game??

So this is the replacement for Tella and Adams? There are key positions where replacements are urgently needed. Without a Central Dedender, strong experienced midfielder and goalscoring striker we will fail to reach our full potential this season. Lets hope this is happening behind the scenes - but time is runjning out!

I thought Joseph Paintsil said himself he didn't want a Southampton move ?
Probably after talking to Onuachu :'-(
