Lawrence Back In Soca Warriors Squad

Dennis Lawrence has returned to the international fold in time to face England next Saturday

Lawrence retired from international duty for Trinidad & Tobago last May but recently declared his desire to return to the fold and that has now happened as he was named in a 26 man squad for the prestige friendly with Fabio Capello's side next Saturday (1 June)

Lawrence said "I've always had the passion to be part of the team.  Trinidad and Tobago means a lot to me and it was hard not playing.

"I've still got a lot to offer my country"

Incredibly though Jason Scotland's 29 goals are not enough to earn him a place in the squad which contains 5 other UK based players as well as Big Den.  Walsall's goalkeeper Clayton Ince, Stopper Jan Michael Williams from Sheffield United, Sunderland duo Carlos Edwards and Kenwyne Jones and Southampton striker Stern John are all named in the squad.

“This is the list of players that we have come up with for the match against England. These are the players we think will help to make the best team for the match and we will work and prepare as best as possible to make it happen,” coach Francisco Maturana told TTFF Media.

“We have included some of the younger players who we have seen progress from and the opportunity is now there for them to showcase themselves. The game is an important warm up for our team and we will take every moment in the preparation and the match seriously. I also want to mention that we will continue to monitor players over the coming period”

Lawrence though will not be asked to mark Michael Owen after he withdrew from the England squad through illness.

Lawrence also played against England in the World Cup of 2006 where late goals from Crouch and Gerard gave England a 2-0 victory - Jason Scotland was a non used substitute in that game.

Brave Swans in memorable game at Carrow Road
It was a pulsating game to watch and very much one of my favourite away games of the season. The Swans looked an entirely different side to that we saw at Middlesbrough when it is clear a catalyst for commitment was agreed behind the scenes at Swansea City. To a man every player grafted and wore the shirt with pride. To see the players really acknowledge the Swans support at Carrow Road this afternoon was emotional.
